My twins are "trying" to drop the catnap but somedays it works and others it doesnt work! I am wondering what a typical awake time for my guys is? They recently extended A time to about 2.5 hours but I am wondering if they could go to 3? What do you do?

it probably is time to drop the catnap, my lo started dropping hers at 6 months. that is a decent A time for your lo's. for the morning i would stick with this and maybe for the pm try stretching it out by 15 min or so and see how they do with that. definately keep reading signs and if they are tired put them down for a nap as you don't want them to become overtired.  at 8 months dd could go for 3 hrs some days, but like i said just watch for cues and up A time accordingly.

Hi there! My DD will be 8 months on April 11. We are currently transitioning out of the cat nap. Most days we don't have it - every now and then we have a short one if she woke up really early or had bad earlier naps.

We currently have A times of approximately 2.75-3 hours in the am, 3.25-3.5 in the afternoon and same before bed.

Your twins could probably go to 3 hours - just move them up gradually and keep the last half hour of A time relatively low key - go for a walk, read stories, etc.

We dropped the cat nap at 5 months  :o it was the best thing we ever did. Now we are working on extending awake time again and pushing out bedtime to 7.30am she she has started waking earlier in the morning  >:(
Anyway i am getting of track this is what things looked like before:

7am - Wake
9.30am - Sleep 1hr 30-45mins
2pm - Sleep 1hr 30-45mins
7pm - Bedtime

I never let her sleep past 4.15pm (not that she does lately) as it will effect her going down for the night.

I can't remember when DD dropped her catnap but it was definitely by 9 months - more than likely 8 - but when she had it she often had it in her pram while I did my afternoon walk around the park - that way she could take it or leave it. Sometimes it was so late that we walked, came home, fed her, bathed her and put her to bed  :o

This is the routine I wrote out for my hubby when he looked after her one day

6.30 up and 180mls
7.30-8 breakfast
9am sleep (not less than 2.5 hrs after she wakes up)
11-11.30 food
12-12.30 bottle 120 mls
1.00-1.30 down for nap (again >2.5 hrs)
3-3.30 awake
3.30 120 mls
5.30-6 dinner
6.30 bath, bottle, bed (she often only took 10-30 mls at bed)
