how do you wake lo from nap?
« on: October 05, 2005, 19:20:52 pm »
a week ago i thought i'd never have this question!

i do consider myself quite blessed that my lo is now sleeping well (at least during day!).  but now i'm wondering how to wake him when he sleeps too long.  don't want to startle him too much.

I do not hate you, I have the same problem too. I tend to walk into Gigi's room very quietly and turn the lights on the dimmest they go. I whisper her name until she stirs, put my hand on her belly while I am still saying her name or other endearments and I slowly turn up the lights. Works for me, she is always very happy when she wakes up.

Natural light works best I think :) I do something similar...before she goes to bed I close the shades and curtin, If I need to wake her up I let natural sunlight do the work for me by opening them up. Usually it's enough to wake her up. Then I'll rub her back and say her name softly if she decides she doesn't want to wake up yet.

I've tried that with Erik, but he still wakes up screaming.   Perhaps he's just like his mom....I'm not so cheerful when I wake up either!

Hopefully he'll get used to it.

How do you wake a two week old from a nap??  Today I tried for an hour before eventually she woke up!!  It had been 3.5hrs since her last feed when I started trying to wake her, and everything I tried was not working!!  We had her unswaddled; tummy time; change nappy; change of clothes; cold flannel on her head... nothing!!  Eventually putting paint on her hands (to get hand prints) seemed to do the trick... or maybe it was just the timing of it!  I think she still has days/nights very mixed up, as during the night she was waking 3-3.5hrly.

It sure does sound like she has her nights and day all messed up. You seemed to have done everything, I would just keep at it. I do not know if you already do this, I made sure my little one took her naps in a light room and at night put her in the dark until she sorted herself out. Maybe that would help speed up the process.

Yes, we do do that... I think it will just take some time.  Today it took half an hour to wake her, so it's getting a bit better!  I feel like half my life I'm trying to wake her, and the other half I'm trying to get her to sleep!!
