8.5 months old afternoon nap too long?
« on: March 12, 2014, 03:46:33 am »
My DD recently started napping well but I'm not sure if her afternoon nap is too long. My 5 yo son goes to bed at around 7 and we would like my daughter to have a similar bedtime. Right now she's not tired until 8:30 because she napped until 4:45. Here has been our typical day. Would love tips on how to tweak our routine.

Wake at 6
E- nurse and breakfast (she's a terrible solid food eater)
A-
S- 9:30( nap for 1 hr)
E- bottle, some solids an hr later
A
S-2:30 (slept for 2.5 hr)
E-bottle, solids with dinner
A
S- 8:30

Yeah I'd cap that second nap at 1.5-2 hrs as her nights are really short and it looks like she's catching up in that pm nap.

Sounds like your dd is relatively LSN is that right? - at this age we were doing a 1-1hr15 min nap and a 1.5 hr nap with a 12.5 hr day I think

Ok thanks. I'll try cutting second nap shorter. What is LSN?

We've also had a night wake the last several days.

Low sleep needs....
This age is really wonky anyway. It's a developmentally challenging time - let me know how she goes with the nap capped st 1.5-2 hrs (maybe start with 2 for 3 days)

Sounds good. I think I'm going to cap at 1.5 today since she woke at 12pm from morning nap and won't go down until 3:30. Our schedule thus far:

3:30am - NW - husband tried to get back to sleep for an hour - I ended up nursing her at 4:30am and she took a full feed.
E-7:15am wake (later than usual probably b/c of night feed), some solids an hr later
A- 3.5 hrs
E-10:35- nursed before bed
S-10:45-11:55
E-12pm- short nurse

Ok we did nap wake at 4:45pm and bedtime at 7:45-8pm (We had baseball).

Still got a wake at 3:45am but it only took her 20 min to go back down as opposed to over an hr. She also woke at 5:30 and I nursed her and she didn't go back down until 6:30. I didn't think she'd fall back asleep but she did. I had to wake her at 7:15.

I'll try 1.5 hr afternoon naps for a few more days and see what we get!
