Title: First Birthday
Post by: anna* on September 08, 2012, 13:19:11 pm
Audrey's birthday is next month ( :'( ) and already a couple of people have asked me what to get her for her birthday. Thing is we have so much stuff from Stan. Brio, wooden blocks, easy peg jigsaws, board books, musical instruments. When we go to baby sensory class she really gravitates towards the baby doll which the 'teacher' uses to demonstrate on, which surprises me, so I think I'll get her a baby doll, and we have a second hand bumble bee wheelybug (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000QDGM7Q/?tag=hydra0b-21&hvadid=9550945389&ref=asc_df_B000QDGM7Q) which I think she will love.

I know she couldn't care less about her birthday, and mostly just loves tiny legos and Playmobil helmets which are exactly choke sized  ::) ::) but her grandparents and some close friends would really like to get her something... any ideas for me?

How is it possible that she is a year old?  :o

So many thoughts.....does she have any ride-on or push toys? Amelia got a radio flyer wagon that still gets used daily! Stan would love to pull her around! For one summer it doubled as a sand table.  :)
And this got used for about 3 years too...and fun because she can drag it around.  ;D

How can a year go by so so fast!?!?  What about girly clothings?  Girly toys that stan doesnt have?  Doll's house?  Toy iron, vacuum cleaner?  For us books are never too many.

We definately went for the girly stuff with Emma at the 1yr mark. It was just after Christmas and O was 3.5 so we got them a big Little Tikes kitchen to share off Santa. Then for "her" we got a shopping trolley with playfood for her b'day - they both are still HUGE faves around her.

My ILS got her the Fisher Price learning to walk style buggy and baby doll - just gave the buggy away last b'day to a friend whose LO was learning to walk as E got a real grown up pram for her 3rd b'day. And my parents got Emma the Fisher Price handbag and teaset for 6-36 mths - both still get huge use thro to today.

We have that one but there's now this one - http://www.fisher-price.com/en_US/brands/babytoys/products/64718

And here's some other ones (don't know the ages and stages on these ones)

And teaset - http://www.ciao.co.uk/Reviews/Fisher_Price_Laugh_Learn_Say_Please_Tea_Set__7913907
It's one of my fave "girly" toys in my house (I am a bigger fan of the boys toys, it has to be said - much preferred Bob the Builder to My Little Pony but such is life ;-)

DO you need anything practical Anna?  My dad got Rosa shoes for her 1st birthday!!  Saved me the expense of clarks shoes and he loved getting her something that she needed.

Plus our house is full of toys.  Other relatives got her a winter coat, jammies, clothes.  It saved me the bother (and expense!).

I agree with clothes....maybe some yummy stuff from somewhere like Mini Boden? I do not buy the kids clothes from there as too expensive for everyday but they are so gorgeous and especially for girls!!

We got M a scuttlebug for her 1st birthday - she is just getting the hang of it now and it can be used indoor or out and is light and folds up easily.

We also got M a little hairbrush with her name on which I think is very sweet...

Love the idea of kitchen and play food - that is def what I want to get her for xmas.

We've got a GREAT dollshouse upstairs in the loft. My mum made it for me (while she was PG with my sister!) and I got it for Christmas the year I was six (my sister was born Xmas eve). It needs some refurb though, new windows, a lick of paint. I can't *wait* to get it down - Stan will love it - but I think it may be another year, need to wait until Audrey just isn't tearing apart and eating EVERYTHING.

Ev just plays with Ben's toys - but one of the few 'baby' things she keeps going back to is this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Galt-6850007-Classic-Pop-Up-Toy/dp/B00005OB9H/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1347129476&sr=8-2
She also likes these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tomy-Hide-n-Squeak-Eggs/dp/B00068Q7LC/ref=pd_sim_by_1

Anna, I just realised I never sent you those pins etc  :-[

Emma still loves those eggs - she likes matching the eyes to the eyes inside now - and sits on them, pretending she's a hen hatching them!

How about they pay for a nice family portrait with all of you going outside or doing it in your house? It costs a bit, but the results are timeless. Elza loved a teaset and similar at 2 but not at 1. Otherwise books, shoes and clothes are great. Elza loves soft toys and is not really into dolls, so I have not invested in them much. For his first b-day Misha got a wooden letterbox from ELC and they both played with it for a while, but not so much now.

However the baby scooter that we got later is brilliant and goes from 1 to 4 or 5 y.o. From Micro scooters.

Now that is useful for when they both want to use it.

Anna, i would give the doll house at least another year, as Misha still tumbles all over the place and would knock it down even at nearly 2. However so precious that you have it! (me jealous!)

We got our little guy this...http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=12429574
It has been a few months and he is in and out of it many times each day. it is the first thing he runs to whenever we get home!   It was meant to be banished to the toy room, but he loves it so much, we have kept it up in our living room.  Our eldest son loves it too!!

Ooh, is it the Radio Flyer push wagon?! We got that for my son as a walker (to assist in learning how to walk) and he loved it and is still gets daily use!

We also got DS1 a sand/water table around that age and it has been one of, if not THE most popular toy we own!

( i have 6 more months to think about it!) i hope to get more memory type gifts  - like i would love if someone would make her a book with pictures of the family, etc or get her a  wooden step stool or puzzle with her name

DD2 will be a year old next month as well and she is totally in love with baby dolls.  We have loads seeing how DD1 somehow accumulated about 10 of them :o (recently I gave some away because it was ridiculous).  DD loves baby dolls especially the ones with the hands she can put in her mouth and the eyes that close just fascinate her.  She hugs them and rocks them and she has a little stroller she pushes them in.  We have 2 very large life size babies, I mean life size in that you'd mistake them for a real baby (given to us, very long story) and DD really really loves these.  She doesn't like the babies that aren't life like though, the ones that are all cloth and no plastic.  The more like a baby it is the more she seems to like them.
We also have a nylon tunnel that came with the nylon tent DD1 has and DD2 loves to crawl in and out of it.  hides in it and loves to figure it out.  http://www.meijer.com/s/pacific-play-tents-see-me-connecting-kids-play-tent-tunnel/_/R-123925;jsessionid=447B13DF3F2249701F54308EB68FC8AA?cagpspn=pla&cmpid=Google_G_US_Meijer_eCom_PLA_Toys
