Sleep time for a 10 wk old
« on: December 23, 2005, 12:15:52 pm »
My dd turned 10 weeks yesterday.  Yesterday was the FIRST DAY that she took ALL of her naps INDEPENDENTLY.  Merry X-mas to me!!!  I was so happy!

Anyway, on to my question.  Now that she is actually sleeping for her naps approximately 1.5-2 hours (depending on how long A time is), she is getting about 17-18 hours of sleep a day.  Is this too much?  I did see the typical hours of sleep post, but I guess I am still concerned as family has said numerous times to me "boy, she sleeps alot!".  Now they have me paranoid.

I did notice that she only slept until 6:00 am today where she would normally get up around 7-7:30.

Here is our current routine ( give or take a 1/2 hour):

E 7:00
A 7:30 - 8:00 (never longer than 45 minutes at the most)
S 8:00 - 10:00

E 10:00
A 10:30
S 11:00 - 1:00

E 1:00
A 1:30
S 2:00 - 4:00

E 4:00
A 4:30
S 5-6

Bedtime routine starts at 6:00, I feed her at 6:30 and then she is down to bed by 7:00.  I would like her to sleep until at least 7:00 am.  Should I put her down at 8:00 pm instead of 7:00 pm in order to accomplish this?  I just don't think she can stay up this late.  What do you think???

hello.... Lara is on the 13th of October 2005 too...

i have almost the same routine... except her naps are longer they are basically almost 2.5-3 hours, so she never goes down to bed before 10... with a feed at 12.

she sleeps till 7-7.30, i don't think Sydney sleeps too much... don't let anybody tell u what to do...

we are thankful for the sleep times aren't we

Wow!  I spent about an hour last night trying to figure this out.  I saw the typical sleep posting and saw 15 hours which made it seem like my DD was VERY above average.  We've been having major nap issues, so I thought I was trying to force her to sleep and mucking up her natural sleep needs.  But, just a few days ago this was her schedule EXACTLY!

Glad you asked the question and appreciate everyone's input.

Happy Holidays!

That's about how much sleep both my kids got at that age.  It will change, so enjoy it while it lasts!!  good for you!

Hi

Zander is always above the average sleep times for his age too.  Other people say to me that he sleeps alot and can't stay up for very long without getting tired, but when their babies were young they stayed up all day and screamed all evening and were up all night!  Zander gets enough sleep during the day so that we get a peaceful evening every evening and only have the occassional night waking - I know which I'd prefer!!
