Question about independent sleep
« on: September 30, 2014, 19:09:34 pm »
We've been on EASY since my LO was 4 months old.
He does his nap nicely but we are still struggling with night wakings. I guess one of the issues is because he can't go from one sleep cycle to the next. But my question here is more on the way to make him sleep.

I put him in his crib on his side. I have one of those drop sides cribs. I drop one side and I kneel on the floor and put my face next to his face. I used to shh/pat him but now it's not really necessary, just pat him a bit. Sometimes I hold his hands because he moves so much even if he has one ziippidi swaddle things. I do this for bedtime as well as for naps. He falls asleep within 5/10 min ( i guess because I follow the EASY routine).
I cannot just put him there and he falls asleep. It has never happened. I thought shh/pat was the sleep training method for building independent sleep but it doesn't seem to be leading to that. OR should I put him there and if he cries do PU/PD?

I'm asking because at each of his wakings he needs to be resettled and I am wondering when will he be able to rest himself. If I just leave him there when he wakes it will escalate to a fully awake and crying.

Does he still have a feed at night?
I've included this thread as it has some good info about PU/pd
At what age is PU/PD appropriate?
