reduced appetite
« on: January 04, 2008, 20:13:04 pm »
My youngest (just turned 1 2 weeks ago) has all but started refusing food.  He used to be such a good eater and would eat anything and everything in sight.  Now when you sit down to eat he will have 2 or 3 bites and sign that he is all done.  Could he actually be full?  My oldest did not do this so I am a bit worried that he is not getting enough to eat.
I know he will not starve...and he will let me know when he is hungry but this is such a sudden change in behaviour.  Has anyone else dealt with this?  What did you do?

Hi there I would think it is either developmental (ie he knows he can do more for himself) and he thinks heck I can eat what I like I dont need to eat it all, so much to go and explore.

Next thing is that you do see a slow down at this age sometimes, as my hv said, if they continued to put on weight at the rate they did as babies they would all be little blimps.

Next thing to consider is he may be teething, or maybe coming down with something

My hunch is it is just a phase and yes dont worry he will not starve himself as you said, welcome to the lovely world of being a toddler, DS is 2 1/2 and is having yet another one of these phases, oh the joy, some days he seems to get by on one piece toast  ::)

He cut a molar a little while back.  He just seems so uninterested in food now.  He will eat his cereal and yogurt and he is still nursing as he will not take a bottle.
He is a healthy boy and I know I should not worry about this as I am sure it is just a phase...but when you see how different he is in regards to eating it is a bit of a shock

My dd is 11.5 months and we seem to have gone on a food strike as well - over Christmas vacation we were all ASTONISHED how much food she was packing away - entire salad plates full of table food, or anywhere from 10-14 oz of puree at a sitting!

Now we are back home and it is all I can do to cajole 4 spoons of oatmeal into her, she's just so bored sitting in the high chair.

I even tried feeding him in different rooms thinking it was bordom with the highchair...but no luck
I guess I will wait it out and hope the feeding strike does not last as long as the writer's strike in hollywood!

I'm in the same exact boat.  Mine stopped eating 2 weeks after turning 1.  She used to love food!
