Help! worst night ever, no idea what to do today
« on: June 24, 2014, 08:24:06 am »
Uuurgh, I don't even know why I'm awake. It's 9am and DD was up from 9:40-4ish last night  :o I have no clue what was up with her, she usually STTN or with one NW, which I generally put down to getting used to no nap.  She has been nap dropping for ages, but this last month or so it seems like she is finally done.  She's doing great with it - she'll still stay in her room for 1-1.5hrs for quiet time, BT is 6/6:30 and her nights have been anywhere between 12.5-14hrs.  So I don't think she's OT from it.  And even if she was UT from the long nights a 7hr NW is ridiculous!  It was so weird, she was mostly quiet and I'd think she was asleep but then every hour or so she would start crying.  Not overly upset, more just whinging.  I mostly left her to it, but by the time she'd been awake that long I'd been in 2-3 times and tried cuddles, gave her a drink, tried to APOP (even though that hasn't worked for ages).  I went in around 3:30 and said she NEEDED to go back to sleep, and she cried and said she couldn't.  It really did seem like she was trying but for whatever reason it just wasn't happening.  She has all her teeth and hasn't been ill so I'm really hoping it was a weird one off thing, and I don't have a developing insomniac on my hands.

Anyway, after such a horrible night she is still sleeping this morning and I don't know whether to wake her.  If she was still napping I would get her up and let her catch up during the day but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't happen now.  Should I just let her sleep? And then what about BT? Any ideas very appreciated!
Emma

I would let her sleep hun. That looooong NW sounds like either she is getting sick or something else was going on yk? Interesting to see what she is like today and tonight. :-\

Thanks Sara.  She woke up at 9:45 and is not sick, which obviously is good but I am mystified by last night! So far she seems herself... given that she only got 3hrs sleep at the beginning of the night and about 5hrs at the end of  the night, do you think I should stick with normal BT of 6:15ish even though it's a short day? She's got to be tired!

Wow that's weird!  Glad she's not ill though.  I think I'd probably stick with normal BT, though keep things low key as she must be tired.

Same. Must be developmental then? There is a crazy period around 3 you could be heading into :-\

Yeah, we had the developmental stuff around her 2nd birthday but it was crying and SA at BT.  Even NW I can ride out, but all effing night??!  She was prone to long NWs when she was younger, but like 2hrs not 7!

So today she seemed totally fine and not even tired (how do they do that, I am wrecked  ::) ) until BT when she had a bit of a meltdown.  Nothing too bad but she didn't end up asleep until 7 which is later than I would've liked.  Fx for tonight...

Thanks ladies, it is nice to have more eyes when you're tired and clueless  :P

Yes thanks (phew!) Asleep at 7, brief wake up at 9 and then slept through to 7:15 when the bin men were banging around right outside her window.  Really really hoping the other night was a one off and not the start of some horrible phase!
