chocolate

i usually wouldn't really care too much about the topic of chocolate but i am wondering if it would be 'ok' or a norm for me to get a chocolate cake for dd's first bday.  we have no 'allergies' in either side of our family, and it definately won't be a regular menu item for her - just thought it might be nice for her bday.

I said 1-2 years, but he has really just started to have little bites of chocolate (at 2.5 yrs).  DS had a chocolate cupcake for his first birthday. He only smeared it on his high chair tray and licked a few fingers. I would be carefull though. A friend of mine gave her son chocolate cake for his 1st b-day. He had never had sweets and it caused lots of tummy troubles for a day or so.

I'm guilty  :-[ I gave my DD small amounts of my chocolate easter bunny. Not a lot, just enough to taste it. More got on her then in her anyway.

Put me on the guilty list, too. :P  My 8-month old loves thin mint cookies (covered in chocolate)--granted, he's only had 2 in his life.  Plus, I know my sister gave my 5-year old dd chocolate ice cream when she was about 6 months!

personally I think its one of those things that if its not over fed then it should be fine. Everything in moderation.

I voted 10-12 months, but to be honest I can't really remember.  We don't let her have a lot of choccy, I'm planning on making these easter eggs last - provided I can keep away from the choccy myself.

If she does have any, I will normally buy her some buttons or something like that.
