Transferring 13 month old from bed to car to bed - Christmas
« on: December 23, 2014, 18:55:13 pm »
Hi :) I hope someone can help or has had experience in this problem!

Tomorrow evening we are going to the mother in laws for dinner which usually lasts up until 8pm or so.
My 13 month old goes to bed around 6.30pm. For lots of reasons we can't stay over but will be trying to put her to sleep in her travel cot at the usual time.
We want to then drive home (20 mins) after the meal.
She is usually great when she has fallen asleep in the pram and i can transfer her to bed without her complaining too much and she sleeps further. But this is the first time i've had to take her out of her evening sleep, transfer to (fixed) car seat and back into her own bed and i'm kind of worried. I'm sure people do this all the time no? ???

Does anyone have any tips for me?

Kat x

Yes, we did this a lot, still do. I guess you would already be doing the night time routine so in jammies, clean nappy etc. I would have a blanket in the back to keep her warm as you transfer and get her room ready before you go out. Good Luck- it doesn't always work but you gotta try! x

I did it for the first time recently when we went to my parents one evening for dinner.

DD fell asleep in the car on the way there and I transferred her into a travel cot but she then stayed there the night.

When I lifted her out the car I put a big blanket over her to keep her snuggly and just held her for a few moments before putting her down as she did stir slightly.

Will prob be doing it again over the holidays with visiting family.

I bet it won't be as hard as you fear. I just snuggle her with a blanket as someone else said. I shh and rock for a minute in her dark room and then lay her down, pat if she seems to be stirring. GL!

I bet it won't be too difficult either... even if she wakes when you put her in the car seat, I bet she'll drift off again on the ride home and then it shouldn't be too hard to transfer. And if she wakes and stays awake for a bit, just remind yourself it's not a recurring event and it's worth it to spend time with family over the holidays. She'll get back on track! Good luck!

I'm going to move this over to Sleeping for Toddlers for you, as your LO is now over 1yr! :)
