Good morning!
Mary is 10 months old.. I was thinking about making some whole grain pancakes to have as finger food.. but they are made with eggs.. is that ok for her at this age? Worried about increasing her likelihood of egg allergy..??
Thanks.

I don't know about giving eggs increasing the likelihood of developing an allergy, but it does seem that most drs recommend waiting until after 12 months to give the egg white. Here in the UK I was advised it was ok to offer everything except honey and nuts from 6 months tho, so it does vary:
This recent thread had a bit of a discussion that might help:

Well my 9 month olds had whole egg omelette the other day (and loved it) and I often make things with egg in them. I looked at lots of different points of view and found all sorts of varying advice. In the end, I decided to leave it up to them whether or not they ate it! So here's hoping there's no allergies lurking round the corner!

I don't know that I would worry that much. As my doctor told me when I asked her, your baby has proabably has eggs in something. Some foods that contain eggs are desserts (baked goods), bread, cookies, pudding and pasta.

If you want to avoid eggs, you can easily make pancakes with the yolk only, or substitute 2 T. tapioca flour or arrowroot starch and about 1/3 c. of water for the egg.

I asked the same question to a dr. at a feeding clinic. She told me to go ahead and if something had whole eggs in it, give it to my DD. Aparently, it's not a common allergy, although I thought it was. It usually affects babies who have milk allergies, more so than those without.... so I've been told.

Thank you all so much for your input! I just love this site, although it seems I can't manage to get aroudn to checking it very often these days (can't imagine why!). :) I decided to do the egg yolks only in the pancakes.. she loves them!
