16 months and "big" bed
« on: December 15, 2006, 02:45:45 am »
I am wondering if anyone has moved their LO to a big bed around 16 months? If so, how did it go?

Thanks  :D

We just moved our 18 month old into a "big boy bed" as he had been climbing out of his crib for about a week.  He actually has one of those convertible cribs, so we just took the front off.

It went extremely well.  It will be a week tomorrow.

We just kept the same routine for his naps and bedtime.  We made sure all the same items were in his bed as were in his crib.

The first night or two he would get up so we went in to lay him back into his bed.  We only had to go in one time.  One nap, he took on the floor for about 2 hours.

But otherwise...it's going great.  Cross your fingers!!!  Only downfall is that he is not sleeping in as long as before (about 30 minutes) earlier.  He gets out of bed to play around in his room.

HTH!  :)

Stacy-Keep little Kaleb in the GroBag and in his crib AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.  We were really shocked that we had to deal with this already.  We were hoping to begin thinking about a big boy bed after Tyler turned at least two.

His room is pretty bare right now.  Thank goodness he does not chew on cords etc. (at least not yet).  There is a monitor that he can reach and he will usually pull it off the shelf and then all I will hear on my end is static.   >:( >:(  Kind of annoying because then I have to get up to see what he is up to.  This morning he was sitting in the rocking chair with his stuffed dog???  :)

2 naps and staying in crib should be held on to AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.  You know my thoughts on this from other threads.  ;)

LOL Stacy

Judy-glad your transition is going so good! DS is three and we get an "on the floor" nap every once in a while.  ;D

It freaked me out a little the first time and I actually IMMEDIATELY got on here and posted to see whether or not I should pick him up and put him in this bed.  I took the advice from the wonderful ladies on the board who told me to leave him, just be sure he was covered.  I was SO SURE that he would wake up within an hour and not get back to sleep but he slept over 2 hours that day.  Weird. ;)

I also strongly agree that the crib is a very good thing and that they should stay in there as long as possible! We only moved ds at age 2 because he was crawling out. In hindsight I wish we would have bought one of those crib tents because it was really the end of naps after that and he had been such a wonderful napper. Sigh. I miss those days!  Now he's 5!  snif snif  :'(

We put James in a bed at 16mths because we are expecting #2.  I had planned on 18mths but we found a bed we liked and had planned on just keeping it up in his room.  We tried him in it when he kept climbing all over it.  It was very successful as it stopped night wakings and also he use to cry every time he woke while in a cot - even when he had toys/books to play with.  The only downside is that he is now waking earlier than before.  He was always an early waker - 5:30pm, but now it is down to 4:30/5am.  He just gets out and plays either in the lounge room or in our room until we get up.

Baby #2 will be staying in the cot for much longer though.

Good luck
