short trip to California--3 hour difference question
« on: February 10, 2006, 17:30:39 pm »
Hi!  We'll be taking a trip form NY to California for four days over presidents day weekend with our 7 month old who's on four hour EASY and I was wondering how to deal with sleeping and eating schedule?  Should we stay with our own time?  Go with their time? Let anything go?  And when we get back?  Anyone have good/bad experience with this who can tell me what to do/not to do? Advice?  I've seen other posts on this topic but they were all about huge time differences and long stays.
TIA

hi!  we went to hawaii when dd was 6 months old.  it is also a 3 hour time difference for us.  when we got there, we tried putting her on the new hawaii time, which meant giving her an extra nap and trying to keep her up later.  that did NOT work.  she was so tired she screamed and screamed for hours.  so for us, we just let her stay on california time for the whole trip, which means that she went to bed every night at 4 pm and woke between 3-4 am!   :o  it was hard at first, but we worked out a little deal where dha nd i would take turns getting up with her that early while the other one got to sleep in.  we would walk her around the hotel lobby, on the beach, and of course we were first in line at starbucks when it opened at 5am!!   ;D  it wasn't that bad and it kept us from having to readjust the time again once we went home.

but i have talked to other people whose babies did great with the time change.  so maybe just try it the first night, and if it seems like too much work, then just stay on east coast time the whole trip.  either way, have fun!
