gaging?
« on: April 10, 2006, 15:38:06 pm »
Quick question:
Does gaging mean he doesn't like pears or is it simply due to the new texture? Should I try again with pears tomorrow or wait and try something else instead?
Cory's mom
Thx in advance

How old is your LO? If he's pretty young (under 6 mo) then it's probably the new texture and could be a sign that he isn't ready for it yet. If he's a little older, then it probably means he doesn't like them.

Cory is 6 months... I think it is a texture thing... This is the first time I have introduced solids. (He is O.K. with rice cereal).
What is the best plan of attack?
Cory's mommy Thanks ;D

I would try something else instead... if you are giving her the pears because of constipation I would maybe go for pear juice instead...

Just to let you know (sorry if you already know) that a first puree is usually just thicker than milk and should just fall off the spoon, you can then thicken once they are used to the new texture.

I think I totally need to make it runny. I think that is the problem. I am not adding anything else.
Any suggestions?

add more milk to your puree and gradually cut back, this has 2 benefits - 1, they are familiar with the tate of milk and 2. you can make it as runny or thick as you want depending on your LO needs and how soon they become accustomed to solids.

I tried the pear puree again today and mixed it with EBM. I had bf'd at 7am and tried the pear at 8am... not interested at all. I waited until 8:30 and he was a lot more interested. I guess he wasn't hungry enough! I think everything is going to be fine from here on in. Thanks a ton for your help and suggestions:-)
