Traci, don't stress about Cole being really active (I used to also kid around that he had ADHD. EDITED TO ADD: I mean Nathan not Cole.  :wink: ), I drove myself around the bend a bit too with Nathan being active early.  I had also read everywhere that that meant he'd be slower in verbal skills - maybe, but maybe not, being a boy also contributes to that I think...he started really talking at 17mths (ie went from 6 words to 70+ words in 2wks), which is right in the normal range and at 2.5 is totally on par with his friends.  You can start with sign language if you haven't already and it really helps them communicate if they are going to be slow speakers and doesn't hinder the talking process either since you're saying the word while signing.

Well another all nighter from D (and Nathan for that matter  :roll: ) - I even got 7hrs solid sleep - it's been YEARS since that happened (considering only one or the other have slept through and if it's not them waking me it's DH and his sleep talking).  Both were up at 5.15, but heck that's such an improvement.

Hi ladies, I have posted recipes on recipe forum on the EAT section.  I have a couple of others but I have to find them :oops: and I will post them.  I did put there that my health nurse said james could eat baked beans, spag bol, potato pie, fish etc.  I tried him on baked beans yesterday and he liked them.  Liked to play wiht them. :D I also made up a tomato based sauce and put it on his mince meat, veges and spagetti and he loved that too.

Re:  drinking water.  I just hold the cup and James drinks out of it.  He doesn't like to use the "sippy" part. :?

re: toast. I just put a slice of bread in the toaster.  I am going to try turkish bread int he next few days with avocado for him to chomp on.

Hope everyone has a lovely day.

Hi all,

~~~~~~~~~~~good vibes for Jackson~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks everyone for the dressing up in cold weather ideas!  Our house is 78 - 80 degrees so I hope Sophie adjusts OK.  I think I will buy a few things for for her but hopefully a friend of mine can lend me the rest.
Lisa - when you give him the stuff you are talking about do you mash it up or do you blend it.  The spagetti for instance..  I will check out the recipes you posted.  The shops here do not have any baby recipe books, another thing for the shopping list in Canada.
Ankie - big hugs and ditto to we are doing what is best for our lo's and you would have to be made of steel if it didn't get to you.  The harder path is usually the most satisfying in the end.
OMG Kate lol at your post, the poop and the loud DH.
Sophie doesn't mind having her face washed with a wet cotton bud but HATES the wet wipes, I tried the silly song route but have ended up just getting in and getting out as fast as possible!
My DH is the loudest person on the face of the earth and Sophie gets woken up in much the same manner as Ryan!
Must run...time for the catnap (maybe!!! :wink: )  will post a few pic's later of Sophie at the beach to send out some warm vibes for those of you heading in to chilly weather!
hope everyone is having a fab day!
Richelle, re: spagetti, i just cut it into smaller pieces and he picked them up and chewed them - J seems to be very good at chewing.  He also has a good gag reflex I haven't had to do any rescue methods yet.  Veges, I now mash and with meat, I have been using mince meat (beef and chicken) and when I heat it up for him, I just try and mash it wiht a fork a bit more.  I have heard of children 12mths and over not wanting anything but pureed food because they weren't introduced to different textures, so I guess I am being over zealous.   :roll:
Hope the recipes help.  If anyone has a recipe for potato or fish pie, that would be great.  We also eat a lot of curries,so i thought I would try James on them next month.  I know someone else asked but can they have coconut milk/cream yet?
Bye for now
Yay - just had to say that Daniel has just taken 70 mls from a bottle! And some from me! I've found unlike ALL other babies I've heard about I don't think he likes it warmer than usual. He seems to like it room temperature. and I can't hold him. He'll sit on the floor or in the bouncinette, and he seems to 'have to help' IYKWIM. Kind of holds the bottle too. So, I think tomorrow should hopefully go okay for DH. Hey, I get to spend the day away from home so I'm very happy. Shopping for pleasure, and supermarket shopping and just hanging at my friends house until we decide it's okay for me to come home. Who knows, it might be after dinner!  :lol:
Thanks for the recipes ideas. They sound very 'advanced' but I'm going to sit down during Daniel's afternoon nap and nut it out. I think I'll start out on my plan a little more slowly than going straight into fancy recipes, but hope to introdue those in a couple of weeks.
Better go, lunch time for both of us.
Happy days and nights everyone
Thanks Lisa!  I know Sophie is getting bored with the pureed veggies and fruit already and is very into finger foods ect... besides the yogurt she seems keen on whatever I give her, or whatever dh gives her!  He gave her gravy yesterday, very salty gravy at that :roll: but she LOVED it.  I have some noodles cooking right now, whole wheat though..we will see how that goes.  She had some toast tonight and Cheerios for the first time and had a great time, though most ended up on the floor (her favorite game - anyone else going through this?)
Someone had mentioned cheese and also infant cheese?
Do you think commercial tomato sauce is OK?  I imagine it is if Baked Beans are - will try those soon as well.
Sophie is very slow on the sippy cup, no into it at all and I am not going to spend any more money on them - I suppose she'll go for it when she is ready!
She also only had a 10 minute catnap :shock: by the time she fell asleep it was time for me to wake her up...sigh...
Long enought for now jeesh......
you know what all this talk of food makes me a little adventuous with riley. We have decided she needs more, but I think we needed the extra kick up the rear.
So I think tomorrow I will try toast on her and maybe rotate it with cereal if it works well. we have soooo much 6mth food left.
We had a crappy day here, mainly a bit of shack whackiness, combined with Jay's consistent whinging for about a month.UGH!!!! I hate it when they are sick.
I ahve been lurking for the past couple of days, seems all is going well with everyone, but alas I am a little too out of it to remember anyones posts specifically. But I will say Richelle, your sophie is a looker, thanks for the pick me up for the impending winter.
Hannah, We chose the same middle name for our dd's, except Riley's is Maeanne.
Well I must dash, i have a night of box watching ahead of me...haha...maybe a little chat too if I am still resembling conciousness.
Oh, seems richelle started the bragging rights once again, we actually got around to crowning riley our princess.
WOW this has been one of the longest weeks ever!!!  and it's only Wednesday!  I have an extremely cranky baby, MIL is on her way over and our relationship is... well... strained.   plus dh just called and said he'd be over an hour late home tonight . :cry:
Go to your happy place, go to your happy place...
Loved the pics ladies.    Thanks for the smile :)   Well she's here...
Naomi and Richelle, gorgeous girls you have! Models in the making I say.
Okay, food, I CAN do it. My words to myself. See, instead of doing my plan I'm on here. Daniel didn't like or want his lunch today, carrots by themselves, then I tried adding some kumara, still didn't want it, so I added lambsfry and bacon. Still no.  :cry: Either he had such a huge breakfast, or his big breast & bottle feed filled him up. Or he's bored. So, I have to make an effort to fix this. As he doesn't like anything that's in our house at the moment, I'll have to go and buy something else for dinner tonight.
Right, I'll say TTFN and start my plan.
Riley and Sophie are too cute.  The beach looks soo nice and I too needed the pick me up.  Sophie is actually in her crib right now for the ever so elusive cat nap...however, she is not napping, but she's gonna stay in there for a little longer.  I have had a bit of a day here too.  I think shack wackiness---hee hee never heard it called that before---aka cabin fever has got to me too.
OK, just had to check on her she was upside down in the crib (head where feet usually go) with her head under the covers...thought it was a riot when I walked in.  Ha, ha  :evil:
I woke up this morning at 5am to go for a run by myself for once...I guess I am kind of practicing for when I go back to work.  I really don't know how I am going to be able to "do it all".  It was really nice though to be out in the dark peaceful, cold morning...with no running stroller.  Although I love that thing, it weighs a ton!!!
Anyhow, the food talk really motivated me and I tried scrambled egg last night.  She really liked it.  Tried toast today and she loved that too.
Richelle and Ankie, Sophie is really into the finger food too.  She would eat Cheerios until the cows came home if I let her...and it seems like any bread/grain product thrills her (toast, baby mum-mum's).  But no, not eactly a balanced diet..oh yeah avocado and prunes and really that's about it so far for winners.  We'll keep trying.  Reading about all of the other trials and tribs with food is helping.
I was thinking since bread worked I might try some "french toast" bread fingers dipped in egg yolk mixed with ebm then fried?  Anybody tried this yet?  I am going to visit your post Lisa after I am done here to see your ideas.  We are veggies over here, and I'm not sure meat subtitutions (soy) are ok.  I'll have to check with the doc.
OK, so does anyone else's little one screech?  For some reason the screeching thing just drives me up a wall.  It's frustrating because it's not crying, but it seems like something's wrong but what??  Agh, it's so annoying.
Hayley-congrats about Daniel and the bottle.  I hope you have a wonderful outing.
Sippy cups--Sophie is also very slow to take to it.  Some days she'll try and I think we've got it, then the next day she'll have none of it. hmmm.
Dh has worked late the last two nights.  He's on his way home now, thankfully, although I suppose I could have chatted if he stayed late tonight.  Maybe I'll try to catch you ladies for a few minutes.
There's something about the late afternoon A time...from the last nap till bed (with no cat nap)..that I just dread. It's my own fault though, should've gotten out with her for a bit.
Oh there's so much more but really this is long enough...I always chuckle when you ladies write that your posts are long because I mena really, mine are loooong.  I really hope it's not annoying.  My dad always used to say, of himself that he was vaccinated at birth with a phonograph needle...I guess I take after him.
Take care.
hannah
love love love the pics girls!  so adorable.  and Richelle...sooo very jealous of the beach.
well, three short naps here today.  just hope he sleeps 12 hours again.
I wanted to ask...what is/are the thing(s) that make your little one laugh?  In the last couple of days Cole loves when I:
1) tickle his belly/chest when he's undressed for bath, laying on our bed
2) hide/crouch under the exersaucer then pop up playing peek-a-boo.  I also tickle his feet while I'm hiding.  he's laughs like crazy :P
3) I lick/suck on his fingers.  he gets the biggest kick out of this.  not the most sanitary I know...but it's so fun to see him giggle.
okay, gotta go do something productive.  DH is at work until 10 tonight and tomorrow.  I'll be chatting...hope to see a few of you there.
Thanks for the food ideas Bec.
Hayley, I keep meaning to tell you...not so much for your lo but for you and dh I found this site called savingdinner.com (on the flylady site...but that's a whole other story right Traci?!)  Anyhow, it's pretty cool because it has menus and shopping lists for 6 dinners. You can subscribe and get a new one each week...or just try the sample.
 It just makes cooking easier for me and dh when we don't have to do all the menu planning etc...just an idea to possibly help deal with food issues.
