Just curious!
My lo is almost 8 months old and I am wondering if I should introduce finger foods soon?
and if so any suggestions?
???
-
just over 6 months but went very slowly ... i'd say at about 7 months i was giving her something at least once a day and by 8 months twice to three times a day, by nine months with every meal (or a snack).
-
6 mos with both of my kiddos. I would start with Cheerios or toast was always a big hit in our home. :)
-
I have just started to introduce it now he is 6 months, I am trying to move on from just purees.
-
Sophie is 8.5 months old and I have just started offering finger foods consistently as she is loosing interest in mush!
-
What kinds of things were you all offering at 6 mo? After ped visit a couple of days ago she said we could give ds finger foods (cheerios, crackers). I gave him a graham cracker when we got home. He loved it, but choked and gagged and it scared me, so i haven't given him anything else (finger food wise). Did this happen to your lo's also?

sometimes my lo will still choke and gag on new things. since i am a total worryer too i just don't give it to her til a week or so has passed. have you tried baby mum mum's or something that 'melts' a little bit quicker in lo's mouth as he is not an 'experienced' gummer. ;)

Scrambled egg yolks is a fav for my (almost) 8 mo. ds. Very messy, but he's never choked because it's so mushy. Also, Gerber makes those wagon wheel fruit puffs. They're big enough for them to hold, but pretty much melt when put in their mouths!
-
We started at around 7.5 months. It was a battle though... the gagging and choking gave me a heart attack each time. We're still working hard at it... he is just over 8 months.
Good luck

we've never had much choking which is good, i suppose it might be because a lot of the finger food she has goes quite mushy eg: rice cakes, cornflakes, branflakes, toast, baby biscuits, banana. i started anwen at around 6 or 7 months with things every now and then, it started by me giving her bits of food and just posting them straight into her mouth, at that age as she could hold things but wasn't very good at keeping hold of them while she chewed on them!
now she has raisins, apple, crackers, cheese on toast, ham cheese.....anything really!! dd still has no teeth but chews on things really well, even the raw apple so don't worry about that being an issue!

The same time I weaned my DS onto solids at 6 months. Each meal he has a selection of mashed and finger foods and he much prefers the finger foods - he actually treats his mashed food as a finger food as I load it onto the spoon for him and he puts it in and has a chew on the spoon himself! His favourites are rice cakes, oat cakes with soft cheese, toast with unsalted butter and sugar free jam and just lately chip shaped pieces of fruit (watermelon is a big success!) and cooked vegetables. The fruit and veg was too slippery to hold to begin with. He did gag a bit to begin with but this is how they move food to the front of their mouths and so long as he's still breathing I don't panic!

Well, I read that when a baby can sit a straight in a highchair he is ready for fingerfoods. This can be between 6 and 9 months I reckon.
-
first finger foods on her 6 month day and now she has finger foods at every meal - to be honest she eats better if she feeds herself than if I feed her - little miss independent!
-
My LO is 7 months and I started finger foods about 3 weeks ago.
-
My LO is 6 months old and anything slightly chunky and she will throw up everything she has just eaten, does this pass? and what did people start their LO on for finger foods?
-
Kezia D was doing this last week I persevered and he is not gagging any more, he gets blended pasta and rice dishes, veggied home made rusks.
-
When you say toast, do you mean toast you have made at home, or packaged toast for babies(zwiebak toast?)
-
I use wholemeal toast with crusts cut off.
