Title: Teat sizes for combined feeding - when to move up.
Post by: babymunkey on April 07, 2012, 20:31:27 pm
Hi there - cant remember when we did this for DS. When did you move up to next teat size?

It takes DD about 30 mins to drain 6/7 oz. But she's combo fed, mostly BF, but BT and DF are bottles. I don't want to make it too easy for her, but would be great if we could speed it up a bit!!

When we were mixed feeding DS we changed when he started crying at the bottle and chewing on the teat rather than sucking.  Not sure if that helps or not.

I would bump up to see if she can get that down to about 15 mins :)

Which bottles are you using? If they have a decent vari-flow that may be a better option as she will still have to work for it but with her breastfeeding muscles it should be quicker.

The tommee Tippee closer to nature variflow is good as it doesn't drip before they are sucking but the Avent would be way too fast.

We're using Breastflow with the inner teat, so she will still have to flatten that with her tongue to get the milk out, it will just come out of the 2nd teat faster.

I'll give it a go at BT tonight and see if she copes - might do that for a few nights to let her get used to it and then give it to her for the DF as well..
