not eating much before bed
« on: April 23, 2006, 19:16:21 pm »
Hello!
Could someone help me with this problem? Lately I am noticing that my 5 month old son elliot doesnt want to eat much before bedtime. I dont know why! Some nights I feel as if I am force feeding him. Here is our routine (its really great so I cant figure out the problem)

E 7:30 5 or 6oz
A
S 9 - 11

E 11:30 7oz
A
S 1- 3:30

E 3:30 7oz
A
S 5 - 5:30 or 5:30 - 6

A bath at 6:30/6:45 and right after this bath he is already very tired
E 7:00 sometimes only wants 3 oz!!!
S 7:15 or so

I think it has to do with him being so tired during the feeding. Im not sure why as he usually only stays up for 1 hour or 1.5 hours after his late catnap.
After his bath he gets very fussy and cries when I put his PJs on
I notice that all he seems to want to do is go to bed and he can act very "spazzy" as I say. We feed him in a quite place with no distractions to speak of.....
Maybe I should try to feed him before the bath? I really dont know what to do.

DS gets very exited in his bath and then very upset when I put his clothes back on. He screams bloody murder, it's really the only time of the week...

So bath before bed is really not an option, it is not soothing at all and after it he is overtired...

Maybe try and feed him before the bath or instead of a bath just give him a wee wash?

Maybe he is just too exhausted after it because at his age he will start splashing and tiring himself out in the bath ???

and by the way he refuses a DF   :(   Even when he has only taken 3 oz before bed.....

I think you are both right......the bath does excite him. He splashes around and its certainly not relaxing to him at all - but he never gives me a problem going to bed so I just kept doing it.

Im wondering if I should cut out the bath........ or try and half and half.......hmmmmmm
Dont know which to do.......
Maybe tonight I'll try half and half and if that doesnt work I could try cutting it out tomorrow night.

What time does he wake in the morning, is there anyway you can feed him 15mins earlier and do the same for the rest of the feeds.

This is going to sound weird;
is he crying because he is tired or because you are dressing him?

Calums gets a 2nd wind in the bath, then quickly gets annoyed with the PJ stage as well.

Can you keep him awake by burping him or stroking his hand, etc ???

He wakes in the morning sometime between 7 - 7:30.......its not consistent, but never earlier than 7 and never later than 7:30

During the PJ stage, he cries because he is tired - not because I am dressing him.

Last night he did the same thing (only took 3oz) and I kept him up 15 more minutes and got him to take 2 more oz....but I dont like doing this. Its just not a relaxing way for him to go to bed at night. You know?
He was soooo tired.

Im afriad if I give him his bath sooner (like right after his catnap) he will just get tired sooner.

UGH. so confused.
