I have a 4.5mth old ds and have been breastfeeding up until 2 weeks ago.  I am currently bottlefeeding during the day but am still breastfeeding at night. I am going to be weaning my son in a few weeks so he is totally ff and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on warming the bottle quickly at night.  At present, I boil water in the morning and make up the bottle to 130ml (he takes 180ml at present).  Then when he needs a feed, I boil water and add the extra 50ml and then the formula. This makes it the correct temperature.

Other than microwaving does anyone have any tips on quickly heating the bottle and if I do microwave, do I add formula before putting in microwave or after?   :?

Thanks for any ideas.

Hi Lisa

My DD was exclusively forumla fed and when she was really little we had one of those electric bottle warmers in her room (it only took about 4 minutes to heat the bottle to the right temp and saved having to stumble half asleep down the stairs in the middle of the night! :D  ).

When she was about 3 or 4 months we found the Avent formula divider and also discovered that she didn't mind her food at room temperature. So, we would make up the morning bottle with boiled water, leave it in her room and just add the formula (which was already measured out in the avent thing) and give it to her straight up.

since we knew night feeds would not last too long (started bottles at 3 mo) we did not want to invest in a bottle warmer - and the ones here take at least 6-8 min.

what we do is:
fill a thermos with freshly boiled water
use a divided formula canister with the premeasured powder
and fill the bottle with the correct amount of water and leave it all out.

i pour the hot water into a jug and  it takes me 2 seconds to tip the powder into the bottle and mix it up.  it warms enough in the time it takes me to walk to my daughter's room. start to finish takes me 2 minutes.

Hi Lisa - I agree with Marie to give the room temperature bottle a try! We started doing this when Molly was about 3 months old and she drinks it the same as if it were warmed. As they get older their tummies can tolerate the colder temperature...think down the road...you will be wanting to give your LO milk cold from the fridge right?
Good luck!

NKmommy:
I go against all rules and microwave.    :?   Our ped says its fine as long as I shake it afterwards to prevent hot spots.  For middle of the night feeds, I would grab a pre-made bottle from the fridge, microwave it, and done.
