I have googled and I can't find the answer. At what age is it safe to give ground beef to child? Does anyone know, or know where I can find the answer? TIA

meat is fine from 6 months along with most foods except for honey and whole nuts.

Ground beef needs serious cooking though and be piping hot as the bacteria is spread throughout the product during the grinding process (unlike a steak for example).
-
as long as its cooked right you can start it the same time you start other meats. We started at about 7-8 months I think with DD, when she first started having pasta and sauce.

As far as meat goes I have always considered beef to be one of the safest meats, lets face it you can eat it raw :P if thats your thing. But you wouldn't consider eating raw chicken or pork thats for sure.

Andrew's just had ground beef for the first time this week. I always cook mine for a long time - the longer the better. It went so soft I only needed to mash it with the other veg I cooked it with. i use ground steak rather than just anyold ground beef. When it comes to using the meals i always overheat and let it cool down rather than just reheating to a pleasant temperature.

Thanks ladies. I was thinking that you weren't supposed to give it to them for several years, maybe that is just hamburgers, b/c they are harder to cook through? It just seems like this was something that I vaguely remember from dd1, so I have been holding off giving it to dd2, but I am needing more options to cook and freeze and using ground beef would really give us some variety. Thanks again, I must have been mistaken.

never heard anything about hambergers either... DD's had those since about a year.. she LOVES them

Well, I have been cooking recipes w/ ground beef. Easier on the budget and time. Thanks everyone!

We've been giving Grace ground beef (hamburgers, etc.) since at least 12 months of age if not sooner.
Hard to remember exactly.
