frequent feedings at night
« on: June 13, 2006, 02:06:55 am »
Tonight my 6 wk old went from feeding to feeding w/no sleep in between. These were 2 hrs apart, going on the third one. She's giving my all the hungry signs (rooting, hands to mouth, etc) so I think she actually wants to eat, but she is also exhausted, so she falls asleep quickly. The first one (6:15pm) she only fed on one side, but at 8:15 it was both, though it took forever as she fell asleep and then needed a new diaper. Could this be a supply issue? My breasts seem much less full in the evening. (This is not the first time she's done this...it happens frequently) She's fussing now, squirming in bed, and doing the hungry thing all over again, and it's been almost 2 hrs. I have tried all the tricks to get her to sleep, to no avail. I thought she just wanted to nurse to sleep, but if that was the case she could have done that much earlier! Is this typical for the evening? My 3 yo was never a big eater, so I don't recall this ever being an issue. Maybe I just blocked it out, though.  ;)

Hi, I remember my dd hitting a pretty big growth spurt at 6-7 weeks.  It seemed she ate day and night for a couple of days.  I remember feeling like there couldn't possibly be anything left in me!  I noticed she also sleeps quite a bit during a growth spurt.  Hope your lo gets back on track for you, because it is hard work feeding all night!  Good luck , and maybe somene else can give you some advice.

I would agree with the PP about the possibility of a growth spurt. The one around 6 weeks is a big one!!

This is quite a good overview:
