For the last couple weeks DD (15 weeks) has been feeding quite poorly. Looking at this forum, it seems like the biggest cause of poor feeding is the wrong teat size, so I decided to try increasing the teat size.
Since 6 weeks she has been on the Playtex fast flow teats, so there was not much I could do but to make another hole using a needle. DD could definitely hande the faster flow, but it didn't solve the problem of her pulling away and screaming at the bottle. So I put another hole in the teat. Again she could handle the faster flow, but didn't solve the problem. After poking 3 extra holes in her teat and not getting the desired result of her feeding any better, I tried a Y cut nipple (since I didn't have any playtex Y cut nipples, but had a Dr. Browns Y cut on hand, I tried the Dr. Browns). Immediately she fed like a champ. She had NO problems with the flow in the Y-cut and finished a whole 8oz. bottle (something she hasn't done in weeks). Its been a couple days, and our 4 hour EASY is getting better because she is now taking a full 8oz feed so can actually go 4 hours between feeds.
This just seems crazy to me. She is 3 1/2 months old and is drinking from a Y-cut nipple?! If it fixes her feeding problem, I am happy, but I am just worried that it it TOO fast. Does anyone have any experience with this?
