when to move 2nd dd to her room?
« on: July 21, 2010, 06:40:21 am »
hello!

my 2nd one is now nearly 6months old. we had moved the older one to her own room about the time that she turned one year old...

this little one, however, has been a great sleeper from day one (knock on wood!)-- sleeping from 9pm till 6:30am, with a df at 11pm.

so am just wondering, is it ok for me to move her to my older dd's room now? or is she too little ?

till now dd2 has been sleeping in our room in her baby bed...

thanks in advance !
sudhi

...you are so lucky that baby sleeps through and yes it is a brilliant idea to move her now, as the older they get the more difficult it will become...try to keep her crib facing the same direction as it is in your room, so that she sleeps in the same direction as well...good luck

hi pixie,
thank you for your response, have made a note regarding the direction of sleep.
yes i know that we have been lucky so far .. no nights up (frantically knocking on wood) and very few early wakings (again frantically knocking on wood!).

but if she stirs or is in some trouble -- she turns and i find her asleep on her tummy many mornings -- how will i get to know?

at the moment, since she sleeps in our room, i just have to pop my head up and i can see her in her bed to reassure myself... so...
will she be ok?

....maybe put a support (pillow), next to her body (away from her face) to stop her rolling on to her tummy or invest in a baby monitor, you can attach the monitor to the crib, and have the receiver next to your bed, so you can hear her if she stirs or gets niggly....it's normal as a mom to worry, but she will be ok...let me know what you decide.....

well.... :) we are in india... baby monitors are very expensive here :(

but am thinking that maybe to start with, i should also sleep in the same room, maybe on a separate mattress, just to see how it goes ?

If you sleep in the room with them it may be difficult to leave as she gets more and more aware and recognizes how much control she can have over your presence.

then i think i shall put her for her naps in dd1's room, and night time sleep can still happen in our room... till i gain some confidence to   take the leap for night sleep as well ... how does that sound?

i think maybe when she turns 9months, then i can move her to dd1 room.
BTW -- dd1 is really excited about the little one moving in with her :)
