Do you wake for cluster feeds?
« on: June 10, 2006, 06:45:31 am »
Hi everybody,
Despite reading both BW books, I'm still not clear on one thing. Do you wake your baby for a cluster feed? My lo is 4months, exclusively breastfed and is on 4hour easy(7,11,3,6.45and 10.30DF). When she has another growth spurt (at 20wks I think) I want to give her a cluster feed to try and avoid night waking. Do I wake her for this feed or is it like another dream feed? Any advice would be great.
Thanks, Ana

I never woke for cluster feeds since dd1 was always awake at that time anyway!

However, I only cluster fed at a younger age (under 4mo).  You might find that when your lo goes through another growth spurt that you will 'manage' it differently.  Maybe top-up feeds before naps?  Or starting to feed off both breasts (if you're currently single-sided feeding)?  With dd2 I tended to do a combination of these techniques when she was older and wanting to feed more frequently.

I did the cluster feeds at the growth spurts and I treated them as another df.  We still had an extra night feed for 2 or 3 nights as well.

Proud to have breastfed for a combined total of 35 months
