What does your LO have on a sandwich?
« on: April 14, 2009, 05:50:04 am »
I am at a loss for ideas for Sandwich fillings for my 13mo.

He likes to have a sandwich as part of his lunch each day but even an Aussie kid can only eat so much Vegemite!!! ;D

He is not allergic to anything but I have not introduced any nut products yet.

I am very interested in what other mum's are preparing, any tips?????

My DS#2 loves cream cheese and chives. His next favourite sandwich is avacordo and banana mash with tofu.

I wish mine would eat something other than peanut butter and jam (the sugar free stuff at least!).  Zander's decided it's his favourite and Nathaniel follows whatever his brother does ...

Good luck :D

Actually, N eats more if we just cut up buttered bread and pop bits of cheese, turkey, tomato and cucumber on the plate with the bread. Sandwiches are just pulled apart ::)
He does love peanut butter though ;)

I honestly don't believe my children can be my own - I'd live off sandwiches if I could (and kind of do!).

Instead of sandwiches you could try pita pockets?  I buy the mini pita bread, cut them in half and let dd stuff them herself.  There's a platter of luncheon meats or chicken cubes, cheese slices, cucumbers or shredded lettuce or whatever veggie I have available.  Takes no time to prepare at all 5 min max.  DS is beginning to eat them as well instead of picking them apart.  lol

Oh, and we must have a pickle with all sandwiches or pita pockets.

Hi there,
Our favourite here is beans (mashed up) with shredded cheese.  DS also likes Tofurkey (tofu deli "meat") with mayo and cheese!  Sometimes we use tortilla wraps and  roll them for a little more interest!!

dd's favourite sandwich for ages was cream cheese and spinach.  Won't eat it now though...

You can try bagels too - we have them with cream cheese, or toasted with tomato and melted cheese (works on crumpets too).

A really yummy and complete sandwhich we tried recently.

Roast chicken pieces, mashed sweet potato mixed with cottage cheese. Really yum!  The sweetness of the sweet potato goes really well with the chicken.
(I rubbed taco seasoning on some chicken pieces and roasted in oven).
