Asparagus
« on: October 01, 2006, 01:30:18 am »
I just made some pureed asparagus for freezing and I tried a little bit before putting in the freezer.  YUCK  :o
I like asparagus but for some reason pureed asparagus different.  Has anybody tried serving asparagus yet?  And if so, what other veggie or fruit can I mix it with?  I don't think DS is going to like this veggie at all.  :P

We didn't try this one until she was on finger foods, but I could imagine it might not be a favorite--we had problems with brocolli, which she loved once she could have it in chunks--although I think that was a texture thing, not so much flavor.  I didn't really like any of the pureed green veges--so I didn't taste them too much and just tried to see what I could get dd to eat.

One thing I did a lot with spinach since she wouldn't eat it alone was mix it into her morning cereal with prunes--the prunes totally hid the taste and so she'd eat the whole mix and I was happy knowing she was getting a good green vege.

Good luck--let us know how it goes!

DD didn't have asparagus until she was on finger foods - and her first taste was of raw asparagus (as she raided the trolley in the supermarket  ::) It was probably around 10 months. I just gave it as a finger food or chopped up in a cheese sauce. If you don't give cheese yet then you could try mixing it with potato - which I mixed with most green veggies - and still do when there is little chance of DS or DH eating it otherwise!

Yes, I found the same thing! I love asparagus steamed yet when I made some for dd and put it in the processor I thought it tasted horrid! Could be the lack of salt and butter? Anyways, my dd didn't care for it too much when I gave it to her plain but I now mix a cube of it with a cube of a second veggie or even a protein like chickpeas and she loves it.
