15 wks old - should I change his teats?
« on: December 30, 2014, 09:15:54 am »
Hi,
My LO is using Pigeon slow flow teats & NUk standard neck bottles since birth.
I noticed he took less amount of formula 2 wk ago. Still cant find the reason. However, in the meantime when I feed him, he always bite the teats rather than sucking milk.
Should I change teats? Which teats should I change?
I used to change to medium size teat but w wide neck Pigeon bottle & he frustrated at that time. Is that different feeling for him between wide & narrow neck bottle?
How can I know when I should change his teats?

Thank you.

It is a so gn of needing to change the teat when the drinking speed goes down, and playing with the teat rather than feeding can also indicate this. These can also be signs of needing to stretch the time between feeds a bit too - they start to need longer before they are hungry and you stretch the whole EASY around this time.

If I were you I'd probably give the next size up year a go and if after a few feeds he still isn't coping with it, then try stretching the time too.

What do you think?

Oh lah lah...
so I should try a couple of feed. Last time I just tried once then stop.
I think I need to change teats but cause of unsuccessful last time confused me :)
I tried to stretch E. To 3.5 & 4 but he still not....cry until there. Skmetimes he did cry but stil not take much milk & has constipation now so im not sure where is the problem.
I would try up size teats for tomorrow & would let u know. Hope he will take more.
Thank you & Good night love. :*

Well let me know, if he takes the tears and still has trouble it may be something else. I'll take a look at your other threads too :)

I tried DS2 on a size 2 teat today because his intake was really variable, he was falling asleep on the bottle and was taking AGES to feed. Seriously - like 45 mins for 2oz. He is also super windy  ::).

He is almost 6 weeks (2 corrected).

Seemed to manage just fine and certainly dropped his feed time to more like 20-30 mins (with winding) for 4oz.

Does that sound OK?? I guess he might still need a size 1 at night when he is sleepy??

I'm feeling bad for trying it so young (main motivation was to see if the wind reduced).

Don't feel bad honey, if he coped with it, perhaps he just needs the faster flow. See how he managed at night. Xx

My older two were mix fed quite young and they both liked a lot faster flow than what their age suggested. Variable flow nipples were a fav when they were a bit older.

Teats are upsized, feeding time stretch to 4h... but he still cranky at E time.
now I need to sing lullabies & massage his legs while feeding. If not he wont take the whole bottle  :'(

 ??? ??? ??? Should I keep going like this??? :-\
