« on: February 23, 2006, 17:38:56 pm »
my baby is now 9 weeks old and he still will only take 1.5-3.5 oz eery 2.5-3 hours! i counted up all that he ate yesterday and is ended up to be 19.5 oz.  i dont know why he wont eat much. hes 9 and a half pounds right now and 23 inches long.

I have had that problem with my lo since birth, now 7 months.
I know its hard to understand(as I just came to an understanding the other day when we had a ped. appointment), if they are gaining weight and are reaching the developmental milestones, they are eating what they need.  At 6 months, my lo was 18.4oz and 26inches long and was only eating a max of 20oz/day.
Hope that helps a bit, but for piece of mind you can talk to your doctor about it.  Hope that helps a bit. :)

I agree with the above poster.  Some babies are just smaller eaters.  Have you tried using a faster nipple?  Sometimes that helps increase their intake.  :)

Actually, I had forgot about doing that as well, I had switched to a faster nipple(I went to the playtex advance bottles with the fast flow nipple and he had started takes an ounce or 2 more at a feeding, plus feedings were faster and he stopped falling asleep before his feeding was over :)

Skibbit the advise I was given in the UK was :

One of the most confusing things about feeding your baby formula is trying to work out how much to feed him. And there's no single answer — it depends on your baby's age, weight, and whether you're feeding him only formula, or using it in combination with breastmilk or solids. Here are a few pointers to help you decide how much your baby needs:

Multiply your baby's weight by 2.5 - 2.7 ounces of formula
If your baby isn't eating any solids (the recommended age for starting solids is six months), the general rule of thumb for formula amounts is 2.5 - 2.7 ounces (oz) per pound (lb) of body weight. So if your baby weighs 6lb, he should consume about 15 or 16oz of formula in a 24-hour period. If he weighs 10lb, he should have roughly 25 - 27oz in a 24-hour period.

This is a guideline only, and I agree with Colenliam and Noelle every baby is different, and very worthwhile switching nipple/teat size.

hope this helps
