What did your toddler eat today?
« on: January 08, 2006, 22:51:34 pm »
So i need more inspiration for cooking meals for Ruby. I do the same old favourites day-in-day-out, and i figure most other people do the same? So what i thought was this - if we all post what our kids ate for their meals regularly, including recipes where appropriate, then we can all build up a bigger 'bank' of easy, tasty toddler meals. They can be as easy or as complicated as you like!

So i'll start!

Today Ruby ate cheese on toast - i think you guys in the USA call it grilled cheese (am i right?) This is so easy to do - i just toast the bread, pop some shredded cheese on and under the grill for a minute or two. I cut it into strips and serve it in a flower shape (she's all about the presentation!) With a blob of ketchup. I usually serve with some chopped cucumber and tomato as a side salad.

Look forward to hearing about your meals x

Good idea!

For breakfast, Nathan ate some scrambled egg (SO easy - just scramble egg in a mug, add a bit of milk and cheese, and microwave 1.5 - 2 minutes, then pop it out on a plate) and oatmeal.

For lunch, he ate some grilled quesadilla and apricots.

And dinner is still in the works...

   I guess I forget that not everyone eats Mexican food every day like us California people.  ;)

Just a tortilla grilled in pan with a touch of butter or oil, cheese sprinkled on top, and fold in half.

This is a great idea!  Today, Xavier ate:

breakfast: toast with some scrambled egg, a TON of strawberries, milk
snack: yogurt, wheat crackers
lunch: chicken fettucine (leftover from dinner last night), peas and carrots,           apple, milk
snack: goldfish crackers, juice/milk
dinner: alphabet pasta, broccoli and brussel sprouts, cheese, watermelon,            juice/milk (we offered him salmon, which is what we were having, but            he didn't want any)

Yesterday Ellie-May ate;
 Breakfast: Crumpet with butter and marmite, coco pops with milk
 Lunch: Ham, cheese, bead and butter, cucumber, tomato and packet crisps
 Dinner: Steak, cucumber, chips, onion ring.
  Snacks:grapes,banana, strawberries
Thats a 'bad' dinner for us. Ellie-May eats whatever meal I make for me and dh and at the mo we are in a rut of:
  cottage pie(beef mince)
 stew(beef diced, parsnip, carrot, swede, mixed with gravy and tomato soup)
  spaghetti bolognese
  steak
  chicken breast and veg
 sausage and mash with beans
I really need to expand the menu!

Yesterday Ella & Jack had:

Breakfast: Weetabix/Cornflakes, Slice of toast, half a banana each
Snack: fruit bar
Lunch: Quorn and Cheese Sandwiches, tomato (refused!), Yoghurt & Fruit
Tea: Pasta with homemade tomato + veggie sauce, Jelly & Custard
Pre-Bedtime: Grapes and bread and butter!

I still cook up big batches of stuff and freeze them in pots. I find the kids either eat these, or else it's sandwiches, tins of beans or pizza!!

The kind of stuff I do (we're veggie), is courgette risotto, paella, aubergene casserole, baked bean chilli with veggie mince (real favorite), tofu + noodles, sausage casserole etc. If anyone wants any recipes I can post - mostly you could add some meat if you wanted I guess.

With sandwiches we quite often use plain tortillas as a change from normal bread, and the kids get to assemle and make their own. Also, I find buying plain pizzas and getting them to add their own toppings is a good way to sneak some veggies in.

The thing I really struggle with is desert - seem to have fallen into the yoghurt, fruit odd treat of jelly trap. I hate making puddings anyway - anyone got any ideas?

Clair - the only way Ella will eat cheese on toast is arranged in a flower shape with a splodge of ketchup in the middle - glad to see I'm not the only one!!!!!!
