Solid food at 3 months!!!
« on: December 03, 2006, 19:32:26 pm »
Hi!!!
My name is Suzana and I´m still reading Tracy´s latest book, but I was really astonished when my son´s pediatrician told me I must include
a mix of banana or papaya+jelly+biscuit for him to eat. He is just 3m. and up to now had just breast feeding or formula.
What is the result ...I tried to make him eat but he doesn´t know how to swallow the food on the spoon. Can you please help me.
Suzana and Levi from Brazil

I wouldnt recommend feeding your lo solids at this time, for one thing he is too young and if he doesnt know what to do with it when its in his mouth then he isnt ready!
can i ask why the doctor recommended solids?

Hi and welcome to BW! As the previous posters have said, it is recommended to hold off until 6 months or so. Here is some info that I think explains it well http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/solids/delay-solids.html

Hope that helps a little and see you round the boards!

I don't think that my 7.5 mth old could eat a biscuit now much less at 3 mths.  I agree with pp on holding off.  We waited until 6mths to introduce any solids and did bm up until then.

I can't believe they're telling you that mix of food.
I was a hungry baby & my Mam had to give me similar to baby rice ( you added it to the bottle in those days & mixed on a spoon) but I had no 'proper' food til 4 months.  As the others have said the recommended is 6 months now although 4 months some babies can take it.  My DD1 was showing signs at about 3 months so I gave her rice early at about 3.5 but she couldn't work out how to eat it!! So I just tried every 4 days til one day she was away - it was just before 4 months.  After a couple of days she didn't want babyrice & was staring at my food so I started her on carrot & apple.  DD2 - a much bigger baby- showed no signs until after the 4 month point.
I would seriously wait until they are draining bottles/breast of milk & still hungry. Waking up in the night hungry after they've slept trhough is another good indicator.
