Gerber Puffs
« on: November 27, 2006, 23:24:11 pm »
Anyone know why the Gerber Puffs (apple in particular) say that you should consume them within 5 days?  What happens to them after 5 days?  There's NO way my DD can eat an entire bag in 5 days ..  ???

Well, I don't know if the packaging is different where you are .. but here in Canada, near the bottom of the package it says "Use within 5 days of opening" in white letters.

I think that's so strange!  Its freeze dried and will last on the shelf for years .. but if you open it once, its only good for 5 days?

Ok, this is just a theory...since they are freeze dried, after they are opened would they absorb moisture from the air and become more perishable? Just an idea.

Maybe it's just a matter of them going stale?

I think the girls are right - just a going stale issue, certainly not a safety issue.
If that were the case, we'd be in serious trouble!!! ::)

i've had ours for more than 5 days also.  i saw that you said it came in a bag.  the one i have is in a plastic bottle looking thing.  it doesn't have that warning on it.

We've used the same container for over a month!  (b/c we have many flavors open at the same time) and never had a problem.  I think it's a stale issue.

Don't know about you guys, but I often taste the baby food.  I have noticed the Gerber Puffs and the dried fruit (apple) becomes less crisp.  I am convinced that is the issue.  I serve them anyway.

Hope that helps.
