Lumps!
« on: December 15, 2006, 10:42:05 am »
Hi
My DD is 10 months old (7.5 months corrected, she was born at 30 weeks).
I started weaning her at 6 months as she had low iron levels.
She takes smooth purees well, but is just not interested in anything with lumps, she just spits it out. She has 4 teeth.
She was BF until she was 8 months, but now happily takes 20oz of formula a day plus yogurts plus milk on cereal, however she still wakes at 4am every night and so far I've been unable to drop the DF (she just wakes between 12 -2am wanting to be fed.)
I've tried lots of different finger foods, some which she mashes up then spits out (toast & banana).
I'm also in that catch 22 situation where she won't eat a great quantity of solids because she's still having so much milk, I really want to drop some of these bottles to get her to eat more, but I'm worried she just won't sleep.
ANybody have any ideas ?

my ds is almost 11 moths and has only really managed lumpy foods for about 4 weeks as for finger foods all he will take is toast and a digestive biscuit :( he seems to gag all the time.

as for the sleep, if she is waking at the same time each night and u can't get her to settle without any milk, u could try to water it down a bit each night till it is practically water, i did this and after 2 weeks (1 week with no bottle) ds stopped waking to be fed.
he still wakes occasionally usually when he is teething or unwel.

how close to her bottle are u offering the solids?

I give her her bottles after her solids, so
6am -7oz formula
8am - cereal
9am - bottle
12pm - lunch
1pm- bottle
4.30pm - tea
6.30pm bottle
9.30pm DF

How did you water down the DF ?
Did you move the times ?
Tonight I was thinking of not DF and when she wakes just give her 3oz and see what happens.
What do you think ?

Could you post you routine for me, just so I can get a handle on whether there is anything I could change?

firstly this is my routine at the 9 month mark
7am 8oz bottle
8.30 cereal
9.30 sleep
11.30 lunch and pud
1pm 8oz bottle
1.45 is sleep 1.5 hrs
4pm tea and pud
6pm 8oz bottle
7pm bed
the df might be making her wake up in the night, i think i read it is best to stop at 7 months?
to water down the night feed i did 7 oz water 6 scoops of milk for 2 nights then 7oz water 5 scoops for 2 nights and so on, until i got to 7oz water 2 scoops, did that for 2 nights then stopped feeding as the milk he wasnt getting at night he would take in the day

does that make sense?
