Baby not getting A time?
« on: April 03, 2013, 10:22:15 am »
Hi all,
My 8 week old doesn't seem to manage to get A time as he starts yawning pretty much immediately after E. This then means he wakes up too early before feeding in the next cycle. Should I keep him awake for A to train him into it? I feel bad that he just eats and sleeps!
Really grateful for any advice  :)

A time includes everything from eyes open to eyes closed, so feeding counts as part of that.  In the early days there isn't an awful lot of time for anything but feeding and a nappy change, but that will change quickly over the next few weeks.  Are you breast or bottle feeding and how long is a typical feed lasting at the moment?  Total A time at 8 weeks is typically around 1h15, maybe a touch less.  If your LO is having significantly less awake time than that, then it might be worth gently trying to keep him awake a touch longer, but honestly this sleepy phase will be gone before you know it!

Hi there!
Could you post your day in an EASY format? E also counts as A time, so perhaps he is having enough A time right now, it's hard to tell without seeing a routine and seeing how much A time he is having before naps.
You can have a look here what other babies are doing at this age: chronological EASY samples, 0-3 months

Thanks ladies for your quick and helpful advice. jessmum I'd not really made the link that E is also A so that makes a lot more sense to me now! ima shel alon those chronological examples were really helpful - I was underestimating how much sleep he needs! Today went much better as I settled him to sleep for longer.
Grateful mummy hugs from me and slightly dribbly kisses from my boy xx
