Tips to get lo to take dreamfeed?
« on: March 23, 2006, 03:08:13 am »
Been trying to introduce the df with my 11 1/2 week old for a week now.  He is in such a deep sleep that I can't even get his sucking reflex going, he only grins in his sleep and lets the nipple sit in his mouth.  The stretch that I have tried it, he has woken up 2 hours after I try (I try at 11pm, he wakes at 1am) - when I haven't done the df he sleep from bedtime at 8pm until 3 or 4 am and then sleeps until around 7am.  Should I just leave things be?  Any suggestions on getting your lo to take the df?  I do cluster feed at around 5pm and 7pm (the latter right before his bath and bedtime routine).

If as you say you are cluster feeding and he is sleeping to 3/4ish I would let it go. Some babies just arnt cut out for the df whilst for others it is essential for them so they sleep a big chunk at night. I'd keep trying for another week just to be certain he doesnt want it. You may find when he is a little older you may need to introduce it then, quite a few mums who have found thier LO is reluctant with the DF in the begining have found a switch in thier feeding patterns seem to make them need it.  For instance once the LO has started solids or dropped a feed. Let us know how you get on  :)

Poor litle guy  :( Have you tried raising the top end of his bed to help with his breathing if he is stuffy, I also find if can nurse him so he is more upright that's sometimes helpful too. I dont know how easy that would be cos he'll be alot smaller than my LO, hope he feels better soon!
