snacking or ok?
« on: January 26, 2006, 17:30:10 pm »
My three month old is a big boy (15 lbs!) and he wants to eat every 2 hours during the day (he's breastfed).  I try and hold him off, but he's hungry and he eats for about 15-20 minutes each feed.  Is this a full feed or is he snacking?  It is normal that he wants to eat so frequently?  I'll never get him to a 3-4 hour easy!

It sound like a full feed to me, has he always fed this often? If it has only been recently it could well be a growth spurt which alot of babies go through at around your DS age he could also be requiring more milk and as a way to increase supply he is feeding more frequently.

BF babies do tend to feed more frequently than FF (BM is digested more quickly) my DS wasn't on four hour easy until he was at least 6months old.
Any more questions please ask, HTH

I think it's a full feed too!  My only problem is that he eats during the night too... he wakes about 11pm for a feed and then around 3am for another and then 6am.  Is this ok too?  I don't want to create bad habits.  At night, the least amount he will take is 12 minutes, but I still think it's a full feed, no?  So I don't want to deprive him if he needs the calories.  What do you think?

That's basically one night feed (not counting dreamfeed and the morning feed).  Sounds good for a 3 month old to me!  :)
