Question about storing EBM
« on: July 16, 2006, 20:45:15 pm »
I am going on a course next weekend and so DH will need to give DD a bottle of EBM for two of her day feeds.

My (possibly stupid) question is can you mix EBM from different pumping sessions? I get about 3oz per session, and only really get the chance to pump once in the morning. So if I put the 3oz I got this morning in the fridge - when I pump tomorrow can I add the next 3oz to it and then put the 6oz in the freezer?

Also, how do I know how much is enough for a feed? She is over 12lbs and 7 weeks old.

Yes...you can combine the breast milk AS LONG AS you chill both batches in the refrigerator before you combine them.  I will leave your second question open as I didn't bottle feed EBM to my lo at that age.

Good luck!

Ditto what Shelby said about cooling before combining.  As far as how much to offer, can you try a feed before the weekend to test it out?  You can use this calculator to help guide you as well.
