how much is too much at 21 weeks?
« on: June 01, 2009, 19:04:09 pm »
i'm posting all over the place tonight as i' completely confused and just a tad stressed this evening. I started catherien (21w) on solids a couple of weeks ago and she took just a tiny bit of baby rice. the last few days she's been taking much more, so much so that i've been going back and making her a second bowlful sometimes. she's having 3 'meals' a day, breakfast is jsut rice, lunch and tea have veggies added. i always add some EBM to the feeds. She has a BF at 7, 11 and 3. A bottle of formula at 5.30 and 6.30 and a dreamfeed. My question is as she's only 21 weeks, should i jsut be giving her a 'taster' of solids at the moment or should i keep feeding until she shows signs of wanting to stop? I've been doing the solids an hour after milk feeds. she's waking up regulalry at night and i don't know if this is nap-related, food-related or anything else! could the veggies be giving her tummy trouble? her wak up is almost always 4.30 and i basically can't get her back to sleep witohut bringing her into bed with me. not a habit i want to get into really.
thanks in advance for the advice
anna

Hi Anna
Though I did also start cereal/baby rice at 4.5 months, I didn't intro veggies/fruits/meats until 6 months and we weren't on a full three meals a day until a few weeks later.  I think three meals a day might be a bit much right now...  how many tablespoons or ounces is she getting?  We were only doing 1-2 tablespoons at that age.

As for the 4am waking, i'm guessing that's genuinely hunger, so I'd feed her and put her straight back to bed.  I don't blame you for not wanting ot create a habit out of coming back to Mommy's bed.  Have you tried feeding her?

hi, yes i think you're right, i've done too much too soon. I've gone back to just rice today and ahve dropped from 3 meals to 2. she's only having 2 tablespoons mixed with milk and seems to be enjoying it, emptying the bowl everytime!

Yes i have tried feeding her in the night, as a few nights ago she was only having very small dreamfeeds for some reason so was definitely hungry. Still couldn't get her back to sleep afterwards though!

thanks for your advice
