I've got one but never used it as yet. My mum took Isabella on a walk and she wriggled her arms out of my mums and started running. Mum ran after her and carried her home the rest of the way. When I saw her face, she was almost in tears and said "I'm never ever taking Isabella out again unless you get me a harness". My aunt that evening came over with a brand new harness (mum must have told her what hapened). DH & his whole family absolutely hate the idea & are all repulsed that I would have my daughter on a "leash", my family is all for it. I usually have her strapped in a pram & only let her out when we're at a park BUT having said that, she scared the life out of me the other day when she was running around chasing a bird and started heading for the gate. I had the baby in my arms & was running after her & screaming "stop" like a mad woman.

I am too going to start using it - its just not worth the risk, imo & I am not a very good runner (esp with a baby in my arms).

yeah that is the problem, that kids, beeing kids, just want to discover the world, and even if you are screaming your lungs out, if she found the lil birdie more interesting, she'll go for it ::) ... if hubby and his family don't feel comfy with this, well hmmm i'm sorry, who's the one taking the kids out?... you are hun, so... you go girl, and get that leash for your peace of mind!

I was thinking of you this morning on my walk with H, I don't have a strap , but I will be extra concious from now on,

I was just giving MY reason for using a wrist harness. 
Infact I often just hold DD's hand while she has the wrist harness on.....I think it just puts MY mind at ease  ;)

I do that too, especially b/c Mikey knows how to undo the wrist strap which is why i prefer the body harness b/c its impossible for him to take off

I do that Kellie - he's got the full body harness, b/c he would sooooo fiddle and pick at a wrist harness, but all I do is wrap it around my wrist, and still hold his hand. That way we're walking 'normally', but if he slips away, he's attached to my wrist.

LOL I'm sure it's just a matter of time before DD figures out the wrist strap.........
we actually have a body harness in the drawer for when this happens  ;D

I remember when my brother and I were small we had a big old fashioned style pram so we wore reins which clipped to the sides of the pram so we could sit up and not fall out. I will be getting some for my LO when he starts walking, I think growing up with my mum using them it seems stranger to me not to use them! Each to their own though!

I know you didn't intend that but I think you really convinced me of the necessity... (spelling ??? sorry, I am German)
Anyway, I think they just don't look... erm... natural to me. But neither are buggies are they? And neither are cars on the street...

Take this in the tongue-in-cheek manner it is meant: With the way toddlers behave once on a while, doesn't a leash make sense?  They climb like monkeys, run like cheetahs, and are as curious as an entire clowder of cats.     ;) ;D

I don't think I am normal either...

But even the good old Freud had difficulty distinguishing the normal from the not normal, so why should I be able to?  ;)
