9mths and wondering when to drop to 3 bottles
« on: January 09, 2007, 10:07:08 am »
Hi my DD is 9mths old. She has a 7oz (200ml) bottle at 7am then breakfast at 8.30am, naps at 9-9.30 for approx. 40mins. Has another bottle at 11am but will only have about 4ozs (120mls) lunch at 12noon and then bed at 1pm. This sleep may last for 45mins to 1 1/2 hrs. Another bottle at 3pm once again about 4ozs. Dinner at 5.30pm and another bottle at 7pm which can be 200mls (7ozs). She can still tend to waste some of these bottle and i seem to be wasting a lot of formula. When does she or how do i drop her down to 3 bottles a day and at what times. Thanks for any advice. Vicki.
my DS 7yrs old,

The transition from 4 to 3 bottles per day. can sometimes be difficult to spot. The main thing to look for is your LO consistently refusing the 11am or 3pm bottle, this is the time to be changing to 3 bottles, so your routine may look something like this;

E: 7.00 wake up and feed milk and breakfast
A: 7.30
S: 10.00
Y: your choice
E: 12.00 lunch
A: 12.30
E: 1330/1400 milk *dependant on your LO’s nap time
A:
S: 2.00
Y: your choice
E: 4.30 dinner
A: 5.00
E: 7.00 milk given before or after bath
A: bath
S: 7.30 bedtime

Hi there,
My little one is 10 months old now and I have just dropped to 3 bottles as I was in the same situation as you.  He wasted quite alot of the milk, so I dropped the 4pm milk and gave him juice instead and added a little more to his bedtime milk, which seems to be working for me and him.

My daughter is approx. 9.5 months old and has been on 3 bottles a day for about 1 month.

Her schedule is as follows,

730am-bottle 6-8oz
9am-breakast (cereal mixed with formula and fruit)
1130am-lunch
130-200pm-bottle 7-8oz
500pm-dinner
730pm-bottle 8oz

We just made the switch too... Probably about a week so far.  I have the same schedule as Mom2one except the night bottle is at 7:00pm.  It seems to take a few days to get used to it (both you and your lo!) but i feel more comfortable on this since it seems to make the most sense.
