I'm still new at this...

momtocheyenne&toby:
First off let me say that I love bottle feeding overall..especially since Toby feeds himself.  Love that.  Anyway...the clogged nipple syndrome.  I'm currently using Parent's Choice and he eats 8 or 10 oz. at a time depending on what size bottle I have.  I used the drop in liners most of the time..or straight botte.  Am I not shaking it up well enough?  Is there some better way to mix it so it won't clog the nipple...or is it an air problem.  I don't get the air out before feeding him.  Sometimes he'll be screaming in bed and I'll go check and the nipple is clogged..although I really can't see anything.  I shake it up some and mess with the nipple and get the flow going again.  Didn't have this problem at first when I was using the Especially for Baby brand..so I don't know if it's a brand issue or the increase in the amount of formula he's been eating.  Which by the way is A LOT!  He eats 8-10 oz. every 2 hours or so..all day and most of the night.  Any insight anyone?

Gareth - Harvey & Theo's Dad:
We used to get this sometimes using Avent bottles.  What I got into the habit of doing was to add the powder to the water, and then 'swirl' it around first, so that the powder was 'stirred' to the bottom, and then I would shake it up to mix it.

Must be a guyt thing cause my Dh figured out the exact thing as Gareth and iot works - we shake/swirl to the sides for a bit before shaking up and down - no more clogged nipples  :D

Holy crap    I was way off!!!

I had that problem with Parents Choice, though I know a lot of people haven't.  I'm not sure if you are bottlefeeding exclusively but I eliminated of a lot of the "chunks" problem in general by making a pitcher full at a time.  Don't know if you ever saw my post about the Pampered Chef's pitcher.......it's all I use - it's awesome!! And this way too, you can quick stir it every time before filling a bottle.

Let us know how it goes.... :D

Also did the pitcher at a time.  The formula we ended up using was WAY worse than normal formula, and I also found that using room temperature water (we'd put water in a jug for a day before using it) and using a whisk did wonders.

But I still had to stir and stir and stir!!
