My LO is 16 weeks... what length of A time should we be looking at? He is currently on 2 hr but his naps are cut short at around an hour....
Any advise please?
-
A week ago I had the same question :D
I think your LO A time is a bit too long. My LO is 20 weeks old and has 1.40-1.50 A time. It could be that he wakes up early from his nap because he is UT.
Maybe you can find some more info here:

That was the link I was going to post as well :)
I would say that if he's been doing 2h A times just fine, but naps have suddenly dropped to an hour, my guess is UT.
-
.. and I am having the opposite! Realising that the 1 hr A time for Oliver is too little now!!
-
Lucy, that is also the time that things started to change for us (3.5 months apx).
It never finishes, does it?
-
Well, I mean 1 hr from wakening to thinking about going to cot, but obviously by time we get him into grobag and settled etc its longer!
just posted at same time - no - as soon as you have it sorted it all changes, hence need to look for cues, etc of your own baby and not follow a textbook!
-
So I should maybe try 2.10hr? He is very very spirited!!! How long should he be napping for?
-
Generally, the rule of thumb is that any nap 1.5h+ is considered restorative and LO can handle a normal, full A time afterwards. 30-40ish minute range tends to be OT, and 40ish to under 1.5h tends to be UT.
Try adding only 5-10 minutes more and see if that helps. If his naps suddenly drop to 30 minutes long after trying that new A time, then it was too much.
-
How long will it be until I see if an extended A is working?
-
If it's UT, I personally found it pretty instant. But really, a couple of days to let his body adjust is a general rule of thumb.
-
Thank you, will try 2.10 A time today.
-
This seems to have lengthened his naps to 1.30 - 1.40hr...
Now he is due his cat nap at 5.35 but bath time is 6.30, then bed, so what do I do
