Are prunes too strong fo 8 mos. old?
« on: January 12, 2006, 18:12:14 pm »
Just wondering if prunes were too strong of a fruit for an 8 mos. old?  ie. because of laxative effect does it give them uncomfortable gas at this age.  My ds is experiencing some constipation right now which seems to be affecting his sleep and making him cranky.

Also any other foods you can suggest to help.  He's on oatmeal cereal, pears, squash, green beans, sweet potato, applesauce, carrots.  Won't eat peas or potatoe yet.

I gave my dd prunes when she was going thru a constipation phase, prob around 8 mo and she did fine with them - loved them in fact.  As well as pears, carrots are good and apparently apples have to be raw to have the laxative effect.  If your ds will eat grated carrots I think raw is good there too, or better still, juiced!

I started giving prunes around the same time to treat constipation.  I didn't notice any gas or tummy upset, and it sure did the job!  Hope the prunes help.

My DS has been suffering from constipation too - He is 6 months old and I introduced prunes a couple of weeks ago.  To my amazement he absolutely loves them and they have worked a treat.

Good luck - let us know how it goes.

I just gave my dd prunes the other day for the first time - she loved them & no ill effects!!  She's also had constipation & I was hoping they would help - they did a little, but not nearly like I thought they would.
