Anyone have recommendations on highchairs?
« on: March 21, 2006, 18:00:50 pm »
Hello~

We have just started solids and have been feeding it while our LO is sitting in his Bumbo chair (he sits straight up.)  But I know the time will come where it would be best if he had a tray in front of him, or at least the table top.

What do you guys recommend for highchairs?  So far, I've been looking at the new Fisher Price Space Saver high chair (that sits on top of a kitchen chair) and it converts to a backless booster later.   It's much cheaper than a free standing highchair, and could be usefull during toddler times?    Or are those chairs that hook onto the table better where they can use the table top?  I'm thinking those might be more limited in age/weight?

Thanks for your input...first time mom here if you haven't guessed!   ::)

We have the First Years high chair/booster. It's similar to the Fisher Price and straps onto the kitchen chair. Overall, it was great because we didn't have the room for a high chair. It was portable, too, which I really liked. The downside was that every time I took it off the kitchen chair, it was terrifying how much crud was underneath it. Tyler just so happened to refuse to use a booster seat when he gave up the high chair, so we never got to use that feature, but I think it would be useful. Also, be careful if you have painted wood chairs, we had it strapped on pretty tight and it rubbed the paint off some parts of the chair.

I don't know about using the actual table top. That's a LOT of room for messes to spread once he starts self feeding. Personally, I liked having a tray to keep his mess contained to one specific area, and the lip on the tray helped keep finger foods off the floor, at least a little bit. ;)

i have the same chair Melissa mentioned - 2 of them actually!   ;)  i discovered that if you never move the highchair, you don't need to worry about any crud underneath.  (just kidding...kinda...   ;) )

i also really like having the tray for a younger baby/toddler - it does help to keep the mess more confined.  oh, and a splat mat underneath.

i don't really think that one is too portable, because it doesn't come apart once you put it together.  there is one by safety 1st that does, but i would only use it for travel, since it comes apart a little toooo easily.

I will go for STOKKE tripp trapp, because everything is adjustable, the footrest, the hight of the chair and it just looks great and easy to clean. It also won all awards you can get in the UK.

I have the Tripp Trapp too and I love it.  Will last DS until he is big enough to sit in a dining chair, we have got it in a colour which goes with our dining table and chairs and it just looks great.  I really like the idea of having DS sitting at the table with us and he has actually sat there when we have had friends round for lunch, joining in the dinner party!  It is quite pricey but I think the fact that it converts from being a highchair into a child's chair makes up for that.

we have the mothercare highchair/booster and its fantastic, space saving and cheap!  I was recommended it by a friend and now recommend it to everyone I see, it is a third of the cost of a normal high chair and it goes everywhere with me so DD can always eat nicely,  here is a link with a review http://www.askbaby.com/product/-mothercare-deluxe-reclining-booster-seat.htm

We have the aquarium high chair by Fisher Price and we love it
God will give you exactly what you ask Him for, even if it's not in the package you expected it to be in.

We have the fisher price space saver and we love it!  it's perfect and easy to clean.  We have a small apartment so one that was free standing wouldn't work for us.  I would highly recommend it.

I use a Chicco - polly 2 phase chair. DS has been in it since he was 4 month and still can't sit up on his own yet.
