Anyone else not looking forward to starting solids???
« on: August 21, 2006, 09:07:25 am »
I have a group of friends with kids all around Liam's age.  They have all pretty much started solids (most couldn't wait until 6mths to start) and the others are all talking about it all excited.  Me... I feel like...bummer, wish I had a few more months ::)  Admittedly, for most of them it is their first child.  I am just remembering the preparatio, the mess, the stress!!!!!!! Liana was a really bad eater, still is.  I know that doesn't mean Liam will but the same...but just the thought of it!  Am I only weird person not looking forward to solids or are there others out there too!!!!!

No you aren't weird... I remember with Aiden I was quite excited but mostly because dh was home (sick leave) & he could finally get more involved... but boy the work.
when I started Liam... I honestly could have kept ebf him well past 6mo, I knew the extra effort it would be, esp the double feeding, with bf, I could feed & get out the door somewhere & that was it... with the solids I then had to juggle to fit our toddler directed day & it wasn't always easy... I started the food prep about 2 weeks early & said, I would freeze up a new food twice a week & that worked really well as I did it in huge batches & before I knew it he could eat parts of our meals, but I still do freeze up batches of veg as he eats the mashed stuff better than pieces & I can add it to other meals.
BTW Aiden was a "challenging" eater... Liam isn't too bad... so hopefully it is in the name ;)

I'm just not looking forward to it because that will mean my baby is growing up.  And since he's my last baby, I want to keep him that way!

I remember being all excited to start with Tyler. I know I won't be near as enthusiastic this time around because I know how much work it is. Boob and formula are soooo much simpler!

Wow Janelle crawling at 5months  :o
I loved introducing solids to my DD probably because she took so well to them and loved everything i offered. However meal times now are becoming a bit of a battle  ::)

I'm right there with you...

I don't want to let go of my baby baby.  :'( But seeing that she is sooo ready (sitting up, crawling too, staring/ grabbing at our food, and eagerly mouthing EVERYTHING), I know I have to move forward. They seem to grow too fast the 2nd time around, don't they? And one more thing to think about and extra stuff to lug around, uggh! More than anything, I'm wary of how DD#1 will sabotage the effort.  ;) She has  reverted to drinking from the soft spout avent sippy cup again-- and she is 3. ::)

But DC#2 is ready. So what have we to do but let go of our fears and hesitations and embrace the joy of watching our little ones explore yet another sense! Ok, deep breath.... onwards we march!  What shall it be first, pears? ;D

I felt like that too with dd2...  dd1 was/is also not the greatest eater, but I have been very lucky with dd2.  She eats virtually anything I give her, and has been into 'family' foods for a while now, so I didn't have so much pureeing etc that I remember from dd1.

My baby is 7 1/2 months old and I've been dilly dallying very slowly introducing solids.  He gets so messy I feel like he needs a bath after every meal--what a pain!
