Making up bottles when at a hotel??
« on: December 21, 2010, 16:13:41 pm »
What do you do?? We are going to a wedding on NYE, staying at the hotel the 30th and 31st...DD2 is bf but has nutramigen too and I def want to be able to give her a bottle at the wedding. I thought I would get the one use sterilised bottles but you can't get nutramigen in ready cartons so I need to have cooled boiled water. I expect there'll be a kettle in the hotel room but should I use water out the bathroom tap?!! Or bottled water? I don't want to ask at the reception for water because I expect it'd come out of one of those great big vats not a kettle...
Have tried googling but no luck!
Anyone know? Thanks x

Um i would probably just use the water from the bathroom?  if you can use it to make tea?  i think i'd read your shouldn't use bottled water for babies bottles but can't remember why.

Not much use but just wanted to say have a fab time!!!

could you ask the hotel for a jug of water (as if you're going to drink it) and bring it up to boil it? I'd prob do that!

We used water from the taps in the bathroom, but my DS was 11 months old and so drinking tap water as it was.  Can you fill a jug of some sort with water from your tap at home, and put that in the kettle to boil it in the hotel kettle?

You can use bottled water but you have to make sure it's low in sodium. Off hand I *think* Evian is one brand you can use, if you were going abroad where water quality is dodgy for example you would have to use bottled water.

I would ask in the hotel for a jug of water - they'll get it from the kitchen of from where they get drinking water at the bar. We did just use the water from the bathroom in the summer but DD was over 1 - it is a bit  :-X though!

Lolly thanks I guess I will take some Evian (will google low sodium water) as a back up then ask the hotel for some kitchen water to boil. What a parlaver!
Now onto the next thread-toddler's first night not in her bed for over a year ::)

I think this might be another case of everyone is in another part of the world so everyone does something different.  I have purchased "safe" bottled water and used it when traveling.  I knew I where I could buy it so I felt okay about it.  Plus, I had some with me in case of emergency.  Where I live, some hotels use water softener and such so the taste could be different then what my kids were used to.

My lo was at a stage where I had to be very careful about germs so just consider how you are going to wash your bottles.  Might not be a huge deal for you at all.  I brought a small basin, dish soap, and papertowels.  Used the papertowels to dry what needed to be dried and used to line counters in order to keep things super clean.

Sorry, didn't check how old your LO is!!

Hey Charli

Evian is fine. So is Volvic. There is definitely one in the UK that is higher - might be Buxton from memory.

Personally I would take some ready done ie sterilised and with water in just incase.

Will she take any bottle then? Or does she always take the one use ones?
The steriliser bags I found a bit of a faff to be honest, but I would just take some already sterlised.

Thank you! She is just 6mo. I am going to take the one use sterilised bottles to avoid the washing faff :)

Hi Leanne :) Thank you for the water info. I don't actually know if she will take the steri bottles I am just hoping she will! DD1 never had a problem with them...

Personally I would take some ready done ie sterilised and with water in just incase.

So do you mean take say 3 bottles, already sterilised, with the cooled boiled water in? (she only really has 1 bottle of nutramigen a day, if that)

Yes, take the bottles already sterilised and with the water in. I make up 8 bottles in advance at home, and he only has 5 a day so some don't get used til the following day etc. Never had any issues.

I have purchased "safe" bottled water and used it when traveling.

Forgot about this - we can get "baby water" here in Germany. Can't recall what it is actually called but it is water meant for this purpose.  I wonder if you can get it at a large Boots?
