26month old wanting yoghurts after 2 spoonfuls of food!!!
« on: June 15, 2007, 16:31:08 pm »
Hi,

My ds is 26 months old.  He is obsessed with yoghurts!!

He sits at the kitchen table on his booster seat and after after a few mouthfuls of every meal, he'll ask for a yoghurt.  He'll scream and cry if he doesn't have one!  I know I shouldn't give in, but it seems easy to!!  If he doesn't have a yoghurt, he won't eat anything!

Has anybody got any suggestions?

DS went through his yoghurt phase last summer - he had to have one with every meal. We have also gone through the cheese stick phase, the bananas phase and the grapes phase, all of which lasted a couple of weeks/months.

There could be worse choices than yoghurt, although I would personally avoid those with high sugar content. Does your DS like plain yoghurt ? What about putting small bits of fruit with the yoghurt ?

I've tried it and he just pushes it away and asks for more yoghurt!!!

I actually gave him a little tub of ice cream last night which he ate, so at least that was something different.  He still only managed a couple of spoonfuls of dinner though!  I will try with just plain fruit.  He used to eat fruit for dessert!  I think he knows that he can get away with it, so I need to be harder with him!  It's so difficult though, I worry that he's not eating enough, but I think he's one of those that likes to graze throughout the day!!

They do have small tummies so maybe small quantities is what he likes best. If he grazes on reasonably healthy food, has some kind of variety in his diet and looks healthy and active there is nothing to worry about.
