Soy Milk
« on: March 30, 2007, 04:46:41 am »
Is it ok to give a 15 month old toddler soy milk?  I'm just wondering if it could be an alternative to the whole milk.

We are using soymilk as ds has an intolerance to cow milk.  I've heard a lot of good things about goat's milk too.  Does your ds have an allergy/intolerance to cow milk?

We are using soy milk here too as Theo has been having so many bowel movements whith teethhing and dairy seems to make it worse.
I told my doctor and health visitor he is dairy free and they were ok with it. Just get it with added vitamins and calcium.  I know a lot of people are worried about the hormone levels in soy milk and i have looked into this and the levels are so low that it is very safe.

Theo has the milk shakes with a starw too for when we are out and about and just loves them (as a treat).

I just want to jump on board with this thread as I would like to read the responses as well. My dd had a milk protein allergy from birth, at a year we were told to try cow's milk but her bms were runny so I put her on soy milk. She is fine on it but I was concerned about sugar being an ingredient, have yet to find a soy milk w/o sugar.

We can get unsweetened here in the UK. We have a choice between sweetened with apple juice, glucose or unsweetened.

DS doesn't have any allergies or intolerance with cow's milk.  I was curious if soy milk could be given as something extra to drink since DS loves to eat tofu.
