Lunch ideas for 12 month old
« on: April 11, 2007, 19:48:50 pm »
Hi everyone,
Just wondering what you give your toddlers for lunch? Dominic has just turned a year old and his eating is really good, will eat pretty much whatever we give him (or at least try it anyway!) but I feel a bit stuck in a rut for lunch ideas. He loves finger foods but also likes to hold a spoon and try to feed himself though can't quite do it yet.
I sometimes feel he has more Dairylea sandwiches than he should!

Thanks a lot
Sally

Marshall's long-time favorite lunch foods are either:

Tofu (silken, extra firm) simmered in about a 1/2 inch of low sodium chicken broth to make it warm...and then sprinkled with some parmesean cheese.

or...

Wagon wheel pasta - green (spinach) or red (tomato) or both...with Annabelle Karmel's simple cheese sauce (dab of butter, handful grated cheese of your choice, splash milk, melt, adjust cheese/milk ratio until correct thickness...) and frozen peas.

Hope this is at least some variety! :)

p.s. you can freeze the sauce in ice cube trays.

Have you seen the thread, "What did your toddler eat today?" I get some good ideas from there.

lol we have marmite here!

When I think she is sick of sandwiches and we are going to be at home for lunch I will do things like scrambled egg with perhaps cheese and/or chopped tomato mixed in & some toast, or maybe we'll have baked beans & toast (they do reduced salt & sugar ones now), she also likes crumpets, cheese on toast, I have made soup in the past (although it's getting past soup weather), jacket potato with cheese or tuna & sweetcorn, and this weekend I made her Spanish Omelette from Annabel Karmel's book and that was a big hit too. Or even simple things like cheese & crackers (just to make a change from bread).

hope this helps!

That does help thanks. Never thought of reading the 'what your toddler ate today' doh!

It's great to have some new ideas, bless Dom, he won't know what's hit him tomorrow when he gets a new and exciting lunch!
