My older dd went into her big girl bed at 2.5, never had a bed rail and has never once fallen out of bed.  She never did move around in bed much--when she wakes in the morning her bedsheets are barely ruffled.  so if your dd is like my older one, she'll probably fall asleep and in the morning be right where you left her!

If you have an extra mattress, airbed, or even an inflatable raft, you can put that on the floor next to her bed for the first few nights. We never had a bedrail on Tyler's bed, we just kept his trundle mattress pulled out slightly. If he rolled out of bed it woke him up, but his fall was cushioned so he was never hurt.

Well done ;D

Ewan still has a bed rail and soemtimes I find him right up against it when I go in to make sure he is covered so I am scared to take it away.  I guess I had better soon though.

she had the bed rail for 6 months to the day, we put her in the big girl bed on her 2 birthday, she was 2 1/2 yesterday, never realised it yesterday
