Independent sleep with 4 month old . . . Advice please
« on: February 26, 2006, 02:38:31 am »
We would like to begin to help our son with independent sleep. Up until this point we have used motion (walking, swaying, bouncing) while holding him to get him to sleep.  We have tried to put him in his crib right after his eyes closed and generally he will open his eyes, see where he is and then drift off to sleep.  I believe we need to begin this process by sitting or standing motionless with him.  Do we try to put him in his crib at the same point as before or do we put him there while his eyes are open ?  What is the next step and how do we know when to start this step ?

Thanks
Patti

hi,

have you read tracy's book at all?  if not, you might want to invest in it or check it out of the library.  she is very detailed about teaching independent sleep.

the highlights - you are probably going to need to use pu/pd.  here is a link to the basics:

here's also a link to a sleep interview with tracy, where she also gives lots of details & instructions:

good luck & let us know if you have more questions about sorting out a plan.   :D
